Job Summary of the Lead Echo Technologist
According to unit and hospital policies and procedures, the Lead Echo Vascular Tech leads activities within the designated location as directed by supervisor. The Lead Echo Vascular Tech is responsible for the performance of non-invasive cardiovascular procedures of adult/ pedi echocardiography and vascular procedures. This position works closely with other healthcare team members to facilitate exceptional patient care and efficient completion of diagnostic studies while also promoting optimal unit operations. The Lead Echo Vascular Tech exceeds SDMC ICARE standards while maintaining a clean, efficient, and safe work environment
Responsibilities of the Lead Echo Technologist
- Utilize open, professional communication (verbal, non-verbal, and written) to directly interact with physicians, patients, guests, and other health team members.
- Make decisions of moderate difficulty that reflect both knowledge and good judgement.
- Handle confidential information regarding patient activities.
- Demonstrate an effective working knowledge of all equipment used in Cardiology and related to their job functions.
- Demonstrate competency in arrhythmia interpretation.
- Participate in budget control.
- Perform complete 2-dimensional, color flow, and Spectral Doppler exams according to protocol.
- Notify physicians of any positive findings that need attention prior to patient’s release.
- Provide preliminary measurements and interpretations of examinations.
- Perform necessary equipment checks and QC procedure and report equipment malfunctions to supervisor. Maintain adequate supply of materials for vascular lab.
- Assist in scheduling of patients. Work in additional patients. Make scheduling aware of cancellations or optimize examination availability.
- Review and revised lab protocol to maintain a high level of efficiency. Recommend changes to supervisor.
- Attend required staff meetings and correlations conferences.
- Review performance and ensure compliance with accreditation, legal and other regulatory requirements.
- Perform other duties as assigned by direct report.
- Serve as clinical resource role model for all staff/physicians.
- Coordinate orientation for new staff/techs.
- Assist in completing 90-day evaluations for new employees.
- Coordinate daily assignments/procedures to ensure optimal operations.
- Provide constructive feedback to staff related to job performance.
- If requested, tabulate monthly statistics for area.
- Manage projects and perform additional assignments as requested.
- Is responsible for direct and indirect patient care, diagnostic tests which include Adult and Pediatric Echocardiogram, TEE’s and Pharmacologic/Exercise Cardiac Stress Testing, contrast echoes, Transcranial Doppler and other vascular procedures.
- Transport patients to and from department as needed to complete diagnostic procedures.
- Assist with the lifting, transferring, and positioning of patients.
- Participate in providing continuous echocardiography service by taking call, responding to pages within 10 minutes, and arriving within 30 minutes of STAT notification.
- Complete quality scans in a timely manner, effectively organize and prioritize workflow to meet STAT and urgent demands.
Qualifications of the Lead Echo Technologist
EDUCATION:
- Associate Degree in Diagnostic Ultrasound
- Completion from an accredited school of Echo Ultrasound
EXPERIENCE:
- 3-7 years of experience in Echo Ultrasound is required
- Experience with Pedi/Adult echo and vascular studies
LICENSED/CERTIFICATION REQUIRED:
- Current Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) with American Registry forDiagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) or Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) withCardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI)
- Current Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT) with American Registry forDiagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) or Registered Vascular Sonographer (RVS) withCardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI)
- Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
