Job Description:

RNs in this position are responsible for the coordination of research projects including coordination with physicians, nurses, and other staff members caring for the patient enrolled in a research study. Responsibilities include certification in and strict adherence to research protocols. Activities directly related to research include recruitment and evaluation of eligibility, giving and obtaining informed consent, education of participants, obtaining specimens, direct patient interactions during studies and follow-up after the conclusion of the study and accurate reporting of all necessary data. Provides technical support to non-nurse research personnel as directed.

Job Essentials

Assists with various aspects of clinical research and data collection including coordination with appropriate manager/directors, developing project proposals, data analysis and protocol budget proposals.
Facilitates medical, nursing, and allied healthcare staff education and certification when appropriate for research processes for other health care providers.
Coordinates clinical research projects with the appropriate Managers/Directors.
Demonstrates a strong knowledge base of each protocol & operation manuals for each current study.
Communicates clinical project problems requiring action to the appropriate persons, divisions, or departments promptly and appropriately. May write monthly progress reports when requested by the Sponsor, and/or Principal Investigator or Department Manager.
May review project proposals, manuscripts, research policies and procedures, and manuals of operations to assist with their implementation and coordination of services at both the clinic and hospital level. This includes Medical & Nursing staff in-service education, and when appropriate certification for research processes for health care providers. May collect information from necessary departments for pricing and billing to assist with capitation questionnaires. Work with hospital nurse managers and physicians to facilitate new study implementation.
May perform lead responsibilities such as: Coordination of weekly scheduling; assignment of daily site duties; monitoring and supervision of all research activities including research nurse productivity, provision of feedback, mentoring, and training; timely resolution of research edits and audits; coordination of site-specific supplies; office expansion & growth input, training of new research nurses; quality assurance of nurse work & outputs.
Maintains confidentiality of the patients involved in research projects.
Participates in quality improvement processes and the peer review process by providing and receiving objective and constructive feedback to staff.
Delegates tasks to support personnel appropriately and in a manner to maintain protocol integrity.
Review and present prospective studies to physicians to assess potential interest and feasibility.

May administer investigational treatments, monitor research participants following investigational treatment for adverse effects.

Minimum Qualifications

Current State of Utah RN license.

Basic Life Support certification (BLS) for healthcare providers.

Experience using word processing, spreadsheet, database, internet and e-mail and scheduling applications.

Experience in a role requiring effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
- and -
RNs hired or promoted into this role need to have or obtain their BSN within three years of hire or promotion.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in Nursing from an accredited institution (education will be verified).

Prior experience in a role requiring the coordination of research studies or clinical program projects in the requisite field of medicine.

Physical Requirements:

Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, monitors, identify equipment and supplies, and be able to assess patient needs.

Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergency situations.

Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer use and typing for documenting patient care, accessing needed information, etc.

The hourly range for this position is listed below. Actual hourly rate dependent upon experience.

$36.35 - $54.53
