Nurse Extern II

Under the supervision of licensed nursing staff and in accordance with established guidelines, the Nurse Extern II is an active participant in the implementation of individualized patient care including but not limited to patient vital signs, assisting with personal hygiene/ADLs, feeding, and ambulating patients, and obtaining point-of-care blood glucose monitoring. Nurse Extern II functions at a level above Nurse Extern I by performing higher level interventions once competency is attained. This position provides an opportunity for pre-licensure nursing students capable of providing entry-level care, to perform a variety of high quality, patient centered interventions for patients with a broad range of health issues. The Nurse Extern II position promotes a jump-start to one's nursing career. This position allows for an environment for increased comfort, familiarity and confidence with patient interactions and a smooth transition into practice as a potential new graduate nurse. The Nurse Extern I position is offered as a Flexible Schedule or Part-time position .

EDUCATION/TRAINING/ EXPERIENCE:

1. Current enrollment and in good standing with an accredited school of nursing.

2. Successful completion of a critical care nursing course

3. Classified as a senior nursing student with an expected graduation date within the next 12-months, may remain in the position for 6 months after graduation.

4. Unofficial transcripts with a minimum of 3.0 GPA in nursing coursework

5. Letter of recommendation from faculty

6. Ability to communicate effectively with patients and their families in a courteous and professional manner.

CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES:

1. Current Certified Nursing Assistant certification preferred; required if assigned to the TCU.

2. Current CPR certification required (American Heart Association Healthcare Provider only).
