Summary
We’re looking for a Facilities Instrumentation and Controls Engineer to support and enhance the control systems and instrumentation that power our investment casting foundry. This role focuses heavily on PLCbased controls, plant instrumentation, and equipment reliability, with automation experience as a valuable bonus. You’ll work handson with furnaces, autoclaves, wax presses, shellbuilding systems, leaching equipment, and other essential hightemperature foundry processes.
While PLC programming (especially AllenBradley) is the core of this role, experience with Ignition (Inductive Automation) or other SCADA systems is ideal but not required.
Key Responsibilities
  • Design, implement, and maintain PLC control systems for foundry process equipment and facility utilities.
  • Program and troubleshoot AllenBradley ControlLogix/CompactLogix systems using ladder logic and related control languages.
  • Support plant instrumentation including sensors, transmitters, actuators, and safety circuits used in hightemperature industrial processes.
  • Integrate or support Ignition SCADA systems; experience with Inductive Automation tools is preferred.
  • Lead modernization projects, including PLC/HMI upgrades and migration of legacy control platforms.
  • Improve equipment reliability and process stability across melting, shell building, leaching, heat treat, and critical foundry operations.
  • Create and maintain wiring diagrams, loop drawings, instrumentation schematics, and engineering documentation.
  • Oversee contractors and integrators during instrumentation installations, commissioning, and system upgrades.
  • Collaborate with Production, Maintenance, Quality, IT, and Engineering on process optimization, data analysis, and continuous improvement.
Qualifications
  • Strong PLC programming skills, with emphasis on AllenBradley platforms.
  • Knowledge of industrial control system architecture, including PLC/PAC platforms, HMI interfaces, and highspeed or multiaxis motion control.
  • Solid understanding of ladder logic, structured text, and industrial control programming.
  • Experience with instrumentation, sensors, control loops, and industrial measurement systems.
  • Ignition SCADA or Inductive Automation experience is preferred.
  • Background with hightemperature or highpressure manufacturing equipment; foundry or metals experience strongly preferred.
  • Handson experience diagnosing electrical faults, verifying wiring integrity, and performing maintenance inside industrial control cabinets.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, P&IDs, loop sheets, and technical manuals.
  • Strong communication and projectmanagement skills.
  • Familiarity with capital project funding processes and basic engineeringrelated accounting practices.
Education & Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Electronics Engineering preferred; equivalent relevant industry experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Oregon LME license or higher preferred; ability to meet licensing requirements after hire is expected.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in industrial automation, instrumentation, or PLC controls; foundry or investment casting experience is a plus.
Working Environment
  • Combination of office work and handson exposure in active foundry areas.
  • Exposure to heat, noise, vibration, and industrial equipment.
  • Occasional local travel to vendors, integrators, and equipment suppliers.
