Job Description

Senior Commercial Roofing Estimator – Commercial Roofing & Sheet Metal

Gary Indiana
$90,000–$110,000 Base + Vehicle/Allowance + Excellent Benefits

A Strong Backlog. A Busy Market. And More Work Coming.

The recent storms across the Chicagoland and Northwest Indiana market have made an already busy roofing season even busier.

I'm working with a long-established commercial roofing contractor that already had a healthy backlog going into the season, and they're looking for an experienced Senior Commercial Roofing Estimator to join the team.

They're not looking to simply put someone in a seat. They've been patient because they want the right estimator someone who knows commercial roofing, understands the numbers, and can look at a set of plans and know what needs to go into building a competitive, profitable job.

This is a stable company with deep roots in the market, a strong reputation, and plenty of work already on the books.

The Work

The majority of their business is new construction, with a significant amount of commercial roofing and architectural sheet metal.

  • Approximately 85% new construction / 15% re-roof and service

  • Commercial roofing and sheet metal

  • Typical projects in the $350K–$500K+ range

  • Union environment

  • Established relationships with general contractors throughout the market

  • Projects are primarily local to Northwest Indiana and Chicagoland

  • Strong existing backlog, with additional opportunities coming from recent storm activity

What They Need

I'm looking for someone who has actually estimated commercial roofing work and understands what goes into putting together a solid number.

You should be comfortable with:

  • Reviewing plans, specifications and bid documents

  • Performing detailed commercial roofing takeoffs

  • Estimating labor, materials, equipment and subcontractor costs

  • Understanding commercial roofing systems and installation requirements

  • Identifying scope gaps and potential issues before the job is awarded

  • Working with vendors and suppliers on material pricing

  • Preparing competitive bids while protecting margin

  • Working closely with project management and field operations after award

  • Managing multiple bids and deadlines without sacrificing accuracy

Sheet metal estimating experience would be a major plus.

Why I Think This One Is Worth Looking At

This isn't a contractor trying to figure out where its next job is coming from.

They have the work.

They have experienced people in the field.

They've been established in this market for years.

And they want to add another strong estimator because they see what is ahead, not because someone suddenly walked out the door.

For someone who knows commercial roofing and wants to work with a smaller, established contractor where your experience actually matters, this could be a very good move.

$90,000–$110,000 base, depending on experience, plus vehicle/allowance and a strong benefits package.

If you're doing this work now and you're curious about what else is out there, reach out. You don't need to be actively looking. I'm happy to have a confidential conversation and tell you more. Email me at .
