ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB:
•Provides and directsfast,efficient Advanced Life Support to the ill and injured utilizing all basic andadvanced abilitiesand techniques, including but notlimitedtotheplacementofperipheral andintra-osseouslines,Supraglotticairways, endotrachealintubations, Cricothyrotomy, fluidanddrug therapy, cardiac monitoringandEKGinterpretations,defibrillation, and cardioversion;
•Recognizesandunderstands a medicalemergency andmakes reasonableand acceptabledifferential diagnosis;
•Performscriticalphysicalexaminations;
•Recognizes common cardiacdysrhythmiasandunderstands the principles and treatment modalities forlifethreateningdysrhythmias;
•Understands and anticipatesthe pharmacological treatment of critically illandinjured patients;
•Understands andanticipates potentially life-threatening presentationofnon-cardiacemergenciesandinstitutesappropriateemergency therapywhere essential for thepreservationoflife;
•Dealswithmedicalandemotionalneedsof any victimofacuteillnessorinjurywiththegoal of reducingmortalityand morbidity;
•Responsibleformanaginganddirectingallfirst respondersatthesceneofamedicalemergency such as EMR's,Police Departments, andEMT's;
•Responsible for quality patient-care as established by theCompany;
•Filesstandardizedreportsofpatient informationand care forthe useofreceiving hospital andadministration,including natureofrequestfor aid,pertinentpasthistory,therapyprovided diagnosis, dispositionandsufficientpatient informationforbilling purposes;
•Maintainseffective communication withphysicianondutyathospitalto relate patient condition and obtainorders for treatment;
•Follows standard writtenprotocols whenaphysiciancannotbecontacted;
•Transportsthe illand injuredto institutionsofmedical care;
•Operates emergencyvehiclesina safemanner underall condition;
•Properlycompletes patient statistics and medicalinformationforms foradministrativeuse;
•Performstechnicalrescuesin removingvictims from varied terrain and circumstances; and
•Follows standardoperatingpoliciesandproceduresasdeveloped anddirectedbytheCompany;
•Cleans and Maintains equipment.

• Cleans and maintains (minormaintenance)vehicles;
•Cleans andmaintainslivingquarters;
•Maintains records of vehicles,supplies,training anddailywork; and
•Performsotherrelated dutiesas assigned.
GENERAL INFORMATION:
Thesupervisormakes assignmentsinterms of shifts tobeworked and the generalscopeofthework assignment. Theincumbent performs theworkinaccordance withtheprocedures,policiesandmedicalordersprovided. The incumbent mustexercisejudgmentinapplying the proper guideline to the proper situation. The workisspot checked and evaluated based on feedback fromthe patient,medical staff and others.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
•Mustpossessand maintain:
•Paramedic Licensure
•CPR for the Health Care Provider
•Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
•PediatricAdvanced Life Support (PALS)
•Good knowledge of the streetsystems, addressesandphysicallayoutofthearea,and of the rescueequipment andtheemergency medicalequipmentusedinAdvanced Life Support.
•Good ability to:
•Performtechnical medicalskillswithahighdegree ofaccuracy;
• Understand andeffectivelydeal with emotional and medical needs ofvictims ofinjuries,acuteillnesses,orpsychologicalemergencies;
• Maintainaprofessional and objectiveapproachtothecareofillorinjured persons;
•Learnnewconceptsinrescueand medical skillsandtechniques andinpre-hospitalcare;
• Performa varietyoflimitedmechanicalworkinvolvedintheuse,testingand maintenance of rescue and medicalequipment;
• Direct theworkofand teach other personnel;
• Understandandfollow oral and written instructions and orders;
• Maintain a professionalattitude whenrepresentingtheCompany;
• Establishandmaintaineffectiveworkingrelationshipswith otheremployees,assistingagencies,hospitalpersonneland thegeneralpublic:
• Drive and operateemergencyambulance units;
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
The workrequires the incumbentto operate emergency medicalvehicles,movemedicalequipment and extractinjuredpersons fromawide variety of situations. Situation caninvolve vehicular,industrialand residential accidents,injuriesorillnessandoccuranywhereinour coverage area. At times the work requiresmovementover various types of terrain,(hilly,steep, rocky, rough, and/or wet/slippery surfaces).Theincumbent alwaysmust beable to carry orhelpcarry someone fromthesiteof the injuryto the mode of transportation (vehicle/helicopter) and attend theinjuredparty to thehospital. Inorderto performaphysicalassessment of theinjured party,theincumbent mustsee, hearand communicate with the injuredparty.
Paramedicswillbeissuedand must wear Company issueduniformswhileonduty;additionally,Paramedicswillberesponsible forthemaintenanceand cleaningofuniforms,as wellas allissuedequipment.
Paramedics arerequiredto carry a Companyissuedpager/radio at alltimesinorder toreceiveimmediatenotificationof an assignment.
