Position Overview

Thompson Engineeringis seeking a motivated Engineering Associate II to join our team in Mobile. This is an engineering roledesigned for recent graduates or early-career professionals with 2–5 years of experience.

The Engineering Associate will support engineering project managers by performing technical assignments that develop professional knowledge and engineering skills. The position involves applying standard engineering techniques and procedures while working on a variety of design and construction projects for municipal, infrastructure, and multi-discipline projects.

This role offers an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in engineering planning, design coordination, field inspections, and project management while working alongside experienced engineering professionals.

Key Responsibilities

Engineering & Technical Development

  • Learn and apply sound engineering practicesand professional standards to daily work assignments.
  • Utilize computers, engineering software, handbooks, and emerging technologiesto support engineering tasks.
  • Perform basic engineering calculations, develop reports,and assist with coordination between multiple technical disciplines.
  • Conduct work in an organized, accurate, and productive mannerwhile maintaining attention to detail.
  • Assist with preliminary design efforts, project planning, and engineering analysesrelated to design and construction projects.
  • Support the preparation of technical specifications, cost estimates, material estimates, engineering reports, and studies.
  • Work collaboratively with engineers, project managers, and other disciplines to support project execution.

Project Support

  • Assist in verifying that construction materials, including concrete, steel, reinforcement, coatings, and other project components, meet project specifications and quality requirements prior to acceptance.
  • Review daily inspection reports for completeness, accuracy, and consistency, and assist with tracking outstanding issues and corrective actions.
  • Track material testing results, monitor compliance with quality control and quality assurance testing requirements, and organize supporting documentation for acceptance records.
  • Organize and maintain project correspondence, inspection records, material certifications, test reports, requests for information, and other project documentation.
  • Support the preparation of project status reports by tracking construction progress, documenting completed work, and compiling inspection and quality-related metrics.
