Manufacturing Design Engineer - Seagoville TX
The Manufacturing Design Engineer supports the design, tooling, equipment, and manufacturing processes for leaf spring products. Utilizes CAD, reverse engineering, and design-for- manufacturability principles to improve product quality, production efficiency, and cost effectiveness. Collaborates with Engineering, Production, Maintenance, Quality, Tooling, and suppliers to troubleshoot issues, support equipment installation and startup, and optimize manufacturing operations. Participates in implementing new machinery and processes to drive continuous improvements in safety, product quality, productivity, and process efficiency. This position reports to the Engineering Manager.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Uses CAD/design work for any leaf spring modifications by:
- Using various software such as SOLIDWORKS, CATIA, Creo, AutoCAD, and/or Siemens NX etc.
- Evaluating changes to thickness, curvature, hole locations, clamps, and other features.
- Designing fixtures and tooling such as dies, jigs, clamps, forming tools, inspection fixtures, etc.
- Preparing CAD/CAM interactions or modifying models/drawings used for CNC, forming, cutting, or other manufacturing equipment as necessary. - Applies reverse engineering techniques when measuring existing springs/components and creating CAD models or drawings; may conduct trials when introducing a new steel grade, spring design, or manufacturing methods.
- Documents dimensions, tolerances, bend/forming requirements, and manufacturing steps; manufacturing layouts.
- Confers with vendors to determine product specifications and arrange for purchase of equipment, materials, or parts, and evaluates products according to specifications and quality standards.
- Works with other Engineers on various designs for manufacturability (DFM) to make new products much easier and more economical to manufacture; may apply statistical methods to estimate future manufacturing requirements and potential.
- Evaluates the heating, forming, rolling, quenching, tempering, shot peening, assembly, and painting processes to reduce variation in spring dimensions, camber, hardness, or load capacity
- Serves as a technical coordinator across Production, Maintenance, Quality, Tooling, Engineering, and external suppliers to troubleshoot manufacturing issues, identify root causes, develop corrective actions, and implement sustainable solutions that improve safety, quality, productivity, and efficiency.
- Supports the installation and startup of manufacturing equipment by coordinating equipment layouts, tooling, mechanical interfaces, vendors, contractors, Maintenance, and Production to ensure equipment meets design, safety, quality, and production requirements.
- Develops and maintains equipment documentation for new and modified manufacturing equipment, including equipment specifications, CAD drawings, manuals, spare-parts information, and preventive maintenance requirements,
- Performs other tasks or duties assigned;
QUALIFICATIONS:
- 3 years’ related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Well versed in AutoCAD/Inventor
- In-depth understanding of Engineering Principles
- Solid understanding of process knowledge for troubleshooting and developing new products
- Excellent problem-solving skills and high mechanical aptitude (hands-on)
- Solid understanding of technical aspects of electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, plumbing, etc.
- Strong background in machine troubleshooting.
- Working knowledge of facilities, machines and equipment.
- Exceptional problem solving and decision-making abilities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Manage relationships with contractors and service providers.
- Willingness to work flexible and extended hours as necessary to support production needs.
- Robotics experience preferred.
Education:
Compensation - $70K - $105K
