Engineering Technician IV

The Engineering Technician IV will collaborate in the precision assembly of critical space flight hardware. This role requires meticulous attention to detail, exceptional technical skills, and a commitment to the highest standards of quality and cleanliness in aerospace manufacturing. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Perform complex assembly operations on space flight hardware components and systems using precision hand tools, torque instruments, and specialized equipment.
• Read, interpret, and work from detailed engineering drawings, assembly procedures, work instructions, and technical specifications with a high degree of accuracy.
• Execute all assembly tasks in controlled clean room environments while maintaining strict adherence to contamination control protocols and gowning procedures.
• Prepare and organize hardware kits, ensuring all components, fasteners, and materials are correctly identified, inspected, and staged for assembly operations.
• Perform in-process inspections, dimensional verification, and quality checks throughout assembly processes; document all work per established procedures.
• Follow detailed work instructions, manufacturing procedures, and quality standards including AS9100 requirements.
• Work closely with engineers, quality inspectors, and other technicians to resolve technical issues and support continuous improvement initiatives.
• Maintain accurate and complete assembly records, traveler documentation, and non-conformance reports.

Minimum Qualifications:

• U.S. citizenship is required.
• Must have a high School diploma or GED.
• Candidate must have or be able to obtain and maintain a NASA public trust.
• Must have at least 7 years of hands-on experience in precision mechanical assembly, preferably in aerospace, space systems, or similar high-reliability industries .
• Expert-level ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings, schematics, and assembly procedures is required (GD&T knowledge preferred).
• Must have proficiency with precision measurement instruments (calipers, micrometers, height gauges, CMM, etc.).
• Demonstrated experience with torque-controlled fastening and proper torque tool calibration/usage is required.
• Must be skilled in the use of hand tools, power tools, and specialized assembly equipment.
• Must have prior experience working in a clean room environment with knowledge of contamination control practices.
• Kitting Experience: Proven experience in parts kitting, inventory control, and material handling for complex assemblies.
• Must have a strong understanding of quality control principles, inspection techniques, and aerospace quality standards.
• Exceptional attention to detail with ability to maintain focus during repetitive, precision tasks is required.
• Phyiscal requirements, with or without reasonable accommodation, include: lifting up to 40 lbs, bending, crouching, crawling, climbing stairs/ladders, pulling cables/wires. Must use proper PPE for all tasks.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Associate's degree in a technical field or equivalent technical training preferred.
• IPC-A-610 or J-STD-001 certification is desired.
• Experience with space flight hardware, satellites, or launch vehicle components is preferred.
• Familiarity with ESD (Electrostatic Discharge) protocols is a plus.
• Experience with MRB (Material Review Board) processes is a plus.
• Knowledge of FOD (Foreign Object Debris) prevention practices is desired.
• Proficiency with ERP/MES systems for work order tracking is desired.
• Certified in precision torque tool usage is preferred.
