Summary Independently develops, verifies, implements, and improves CNC programs and machining processes for production and new product introduction. Provides programming ownership, resolves complex machining issues, and improves quality, reliability, cycle time, and manufacturability with limited supervision.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities- Create and maintain CNC programs for applicable 3-, 4-, and 5-axis machining centers, lathes, routers, water jets, and other CNC equipment.
- Develop complete CAD/CAM programming solutions, including machining sequences, toolpaths, tooling, workholding, feeds/speeds, post-processing, simulation, and setup documentation.
- Read and apply engineering drawings, specifications, tolerances, GD&T, bills of material, and 3D CAD data.
- Lead program prove-out and validation, including tool motion, clearances, dimensional results, probing, tool life, cycle performance, and repeatability.
- Troubleshoot programming and machining issues involving toolpaths, post output, tooling, chatter, surface finish, dimensional variation, workholding, and cycle time.
- Optimize toolpaths, setups, tooling, and programming methods to improve quality, productivity, reliability, and cycle time.
- Review designs for machinability and recommend improvements related to tooling, access, datums, tolerances, and manufacturing processes.
- Create and maintain setup sheets, tooling lists, work offsets, program revisions, and related production documentation.
- Support first article, new product introduction, engineering changes, root-cause/corrective-action activities, and production readiness.
- Collaborate with Engineering, Quality, Operations, Planning, and shop personnel to resolve manufacturing and programming issues.
- Provide technical guidance and mentoring to CNC operators, machinists, and less experienced programmers.
- Follow established safety, quality, program-control, and configuration-management requirements.
- Technical degree, certificate, apprenticeship, or equivalent experience preferred, with typically 3–5 years of CNC machining/programming experience.
- Proficiency with CAD/CAM software, G-code, CNC programming, cutting tools, workholding, feeds/speeds, tolerances, GD&T, and 3D CAD data.
- Experience independently developing and proving out multi-axis CNC programs; 5-axis, mill-turn, horizontal machining, and simulation experience strongly preferred.
- Working knowledge of common CNC controls such as Fanuc, Siemens, Heidenhain, Okuma, Mazak, Mitsubishi, or similar.
- Working knowledge of machining mathematics, geometry, trigonometry, and English/metric measurement systems.
- Strong technical problem-solving, documentation, communication, and continuous improvement skills.
- Successful completion of required pre-employment drug screening and criminal background check.
Work is performed in office and manufacturing environments with regular machine-shop interaction and exposure to typical shop conditions. Domestic or international travel may be required.
