Source One is a consulting services company and we’re currently looking for the following individual to work as a consultant to our direct client, an on-demand autonomous vehicle ride-hailing company in Hayward, CA.

Title: Plant Issue Resolution Engineer - Body & Closure Systems

Pay Rate: $80.50/hour (W-2) plus benefits

About the Role: This individual will play a critical role in ensuring the quality, manufacturability, and build readiness of autonomous vehicles during manufacturing. This team is reimagining personal transportation from the ground up by developing purpose-built autonomous vehicles and an on-demand mobility service.

This role will help ensure these vehicles are built to the highest standards and are ready for production and deployment. You will operate at the intersection of engineering and production, driving the rapid containment, investigation, and resolution of issues identified during general assembly and end-of-line validation.

The ideal candidate brings strong technical expertise in automotive body and closure systems, a sense of urgency, and the ability to lead cross-functional teams through root cause analysis and implementation of durable corrective actions. You’ll work closely with Vehicle Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Supplier Quality, and Operations teams to ensure vehicles meet quality standards and production targets. Your work will directly impact vehicle readiness, manufacturing efficiency, and overall fleet reliability.

Responsibilities:

- Lead the triage, containment, and resolution of issues identified during general assembly and end-of-line testing across: Door systems, Latches and actuators, Sealing systems, Access panels, Glazing, Body structures

- Define and execute short-term containment actions, including rework plans, part quarantine, and build-flow protection.

- Lead cross-functional root cause analysis across design, process, supplier, and manufacturing domains.

- Identify, prioritize, and drive resolution of production blockers.

- Partner with engineering and manufacturing teams to identify and implement Design for Manufacturing (DFM) improvements.

- Support implementation of permanent corrective actions (PCA) to prevent recurring issues.

- Support prototype builds, production trials, and engineering changes to validate fixes and improve manufacturability.

- Develop and maintain metrics, dashboards, and reporting to track issue health, closure rates, and recurrence.

- Improve Plant Issue Resolution Team (PIRT) processes, including issue tracking, prioritization, escalation, and cross-functional execution.

- Work in a fast-paced production environment where rapid decision-making and effective problem solving are essential.

Required Qualifications

- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical field

- 6–8 years of experience in automotive OEMs, robotics, aviation, or other complex hardware environments

- Experience in manufacturing, product engineering, sustaining engineering, or similar production-focused environments

- Strong understanding of vehicle body and closure systems, including doors, latches, actuators, sealing, access panels, glazing, and body structures

- Proven experience leading root cause analysis and corrective actions in production, manufacturing, or field environments

- Experience supporting new product launches or production ramp-up

- Strong cross-functional communication and problem-solving skills

- Ability to operate effectively and independently in a fast-paced, high-urgency manufacturing environment

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience with Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and production process optimization

- Experience with Lean, Six Sigma, or similar continuous improvement methodologies

- Experience working with autonomous vehicles, robotics, or electric vehicle systems

- Familiarity with engineering and manufacturing tools such as: 3DX / Dassault, DELMIA, SAP ME/MII, JIRA, Confluence, SQL, Python, Data visualization and dashboarding tools
