Job Description

We are looking for an experienced Sr. Accountant to support joint venture accounting activities for oil and gas assets in Houston, Texas. This role oversees billing, partner accounting, reconciliations, and financial reporting for operated and non-operated interests while helping maintain compliance with governing agreements and accounting standards. The position works closely with operational teams, land, production accounting, finance, and external partners to promote accurate cost sharing, timely reporting, and strong financial controls.

Responsibilities:

• Manage the monthly close cycle for operated joint venture properties, including reviewing transactions, assigning costs appropriately, preparing partner billings, and coordinating cash call activity.

• Process invoices for non-operated interests, confirm correct account coding, and ensure each item is recorded in line with accounting policies and contractual terms.

• Maintain ownership data, property records, division of interest details, expense and revenue setups, and expenditure authorizations to support accurate allocations and partner statements.

• Partner with internal teams to administer ownership revisions, working interest changes, and property transfers so accounting records remain complete and current.

• Track authorized expenditures by monitoring approvals, budgets, partner elections, and setup details, and compare actual spending to planned amounts to highlight meaningful variances.

• Prepare journal entries, accruals, overhead calculations, and cost allocations related to joint venture activity, and complete reconciliations to resolve discrepancies on a timely basis.

• Oversee partner receivable balances by monitoring open items, following up on outstanding amounts, and supporting compliance with joint operating agreements and internal controls.

• Lead joint venture audit support by organizing documentation, responding to partner requests with cross-functional teams, and recording settlements or adjustments resulting from audit findings.

• Produce management reports and analytical schedules covering operating expenses, capital activity, and partner balances, while assisting with external reporting support and financial audit requests.

• Contribute to process enhancements by identifying control and efficiency improvements, participating in testing or automation efforts, and documenting accounting procedures and best practices.
