Role Focus
Drive safe, stable, and repeatable extrusion performance by setting up equipment, controlling process variables, and solving issues in real time to meet customer specs.
Core Responsibilities
- Install dies and related tooling; calibrate temperature, pressure, and speed per material and product requirements.
- Load and stage raw materials (pellets/powders) for continuous production.
- Collaborate with engineering, packing, and leadership to optimize throughput and yield.
- Support commissioning, setup, and testing of new lines and products.
- Execute minor repairs; replace worn, broken, or defective parts.
- Select and fit cutters, pullers, and auxiliary equipment to maintain peak efficiency.
- Conduct routine maintenance and troubleshooting to sustain equipment reliability.
- Coordinate with warehouse to ensure resin, packaging, and supplies are available when needed.
- Perform housekeeping: clean machines/work area; grind scrap and document regrind amounts.
- Continuously fine-tune dies and machine settings to uphold safety, quality, and productivity standards.
- Follow all applicable federal and state EHS regulations and company safety protocols.
- Complete other duties as assigned.
Background & Skills
- 5+ years of related manufacturing experience.
- 2+ years in plastic extrusion or a comparable role preferred.
- Mechanical aptitude with strong diagnostic and troubleshooting capability.
- Working knowledge of extrusion setup, operation, and changeover best practices.
- Problem-solving mindset to maintain product consistency (dimensions, color, physical properties).
- Attention to detail and quality control awareness.
- Basic math competency for ratios, measurements, and material calculations.
- Effective communication for teamwork, reporting issues, and following technical guidance.
- Forklift experience is a plus.
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Preferred: two years of mechanical/technical training.
- Ability to read/interpret technical documents and engineering drawings.
Physical & Work Environment
- Lift up to 50 lbs unassisted.
- Use required PPE (hearing, eye, respirator, gloves).
- Work in hot/cold indoor conditions with dust and noise for 8–12-hour shifts.
