General Function: The Homeless Guest Services (HGS) Case Manager will walk alongside people experiencing homelessness as they navigate barriers, discover possibilities, and move toward greater stability. This position builds trust, connects people to resources, and helps turn goals into action- all with the ultimate goal of helping guests move beyond shelter and into their next chapter. This person will bring compassion, creativity, organization, and a genuine belief in the potential of every person we serve.
Position Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in a human services-related field, such as Psychology, Sociology, or Social Work, OR equivalent client-facing experience required.
- Compassionate, personable, and able to build rapport with people from diverse backgrounds.
- Comfortable working with people experiencing homelessness and complex life circumstances.
- Organized and able to balance documentation, deadlines, meetings, and real-time guest needs.
- A proactive problem-solver who sees what needs to be done and takes initiative.
- Adaptable and collaborative in a fast-moving team environment.
- Able to approach difficult situations with patience, good judgment, and respect.
- Passionate about helping people move forward while honoring their autonomy and dignity.
Principal Activities:
- Build trusting, respectful relationships with shelter guests.
- Develop individualized case management plans and meet regularly with guests to work toward their goals.
- Connect guests with housing, benefits, healthcare, mental health services, legal resources, education, transportation, and other community supports.
- Help guests navigate complex systems and overcome barriers to stability.
- Use motivational interviewing, harm reduction, and trauma-informed, client-centered practices.
- Provide crisis intervention and support when needed.
- Track guest progress, maintain accurate records, and communicate with the HGS team.
- Collaborate with community agencies and SBRM staff to coordinate services.
- Help strengthen our programs by participating in trainings, evaluations, and new initiatives.
- Be an active, dependable member of the Homeless Guest Services and Emergency Shelter teams.
- Be a contributing member of the Homeless Guest Services team, and help to create a safe, supportive, and coordinated environment.
- Meet with Homeless Guest Services team to discuss operations and keep team apprised of guest issues and concerns.
- Maintain good rapport with Men’s staff and security personnel with a willingness to work together to solve difficult problems.
- Act as a responsible party, alongside SBRM Men’s Staff or security personnel, for any problems, emergencies, or disputes that can arise while guests are on SBRM property.
- Support the Emergency Shelter Team as needed.
- Assist with piloting new Homeless Guest Services initiatives and programs.
Compensation and Benefits:
- $24.00-$26.00 dependent on education and experience.
