IT Manager

Department: Information Technology

Reports To: IT Director / VP of IT

Direct Reports: 3 (IT Support/Systems staff)

FLSA Status: Exempt, Full-Time

The Role:

The IT Manager oversees day-to-day IT operations supporting a healthcare/clinical environment, leading a team of IT staff. This role requires a blend of technical infrastructure expertise, particularly Active Directory and enterprise systems administration, and familiarity with the unique demands of healthcare and clinical settings, HIPAA compliance, and integration with medical/clinical technology.

Key Responsibilities:

Team & Operations Management

  • Supervise, mentor, and schedule a team of IT staff, ensuring adequate coverage for a 24/7 healthcare environment, including on-call rotations
  • Manage daily IT service desk operations, escalations, and ticket prioritization with clinical urgency in mind
  • Conduct performance reviews, set goals, and support professional development of direct reports

Infrastructure & Systems

  • Administer and maintain Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS/DHCP, and identity/access management across the organization
  • Manage servers, storage, and network infrastructure supporting clinical and administrative operations
  • Ensure high availability of mission-critical systems, including EHR/EMR, nurse call systems, PACS, pharmacy systems, and other healthcare applications, with minimal downtime
  • Oversee patch management, backups, and disaster recovery/business continuity planning for clinical systems

Healthcare / Clinical-Specific Duties

  • Support and coordinate with clinical staff on EHR/EMR platforms and other point-of-care technology
  • Ensure IT practices align with HIPAA Security Rule and HITECH Act requirements for PHI (Protected Health Information)
  • Support clinical workflows where system downtime may have direct patient-care implications; participate in downtime and failover procedures
  • Partner with Compliance/Privacy leadership on security risk assessments and audits

Security & Compliance

  • Implement and enforce access controls, encryption, and audit logging for systems containing PHI
  • Manage vendor relationships for clinical and IT systems, including Business Associate Agreements (BAAs)
  • Respond to and document security incidents in accordance with HIPAA breach notification requirements

Project & Vendor Management

  • Lead IT projects such as system upgrades, EHR module rollouts, network expansions, or new facility/department buildouts
  • Manage relationships with healthcare IT vendors and managed service providers

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in IT, Computer Science, Healthcare Informatics, or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years of IT experience, with 2+ years in a supervisory/management role
  • Hands-on experience administering Active Directory, Group Policy, and Windows Server environments
  • Experience working in a healthcare, clinical, urgent care, or similar setting, with an understanding of clinical workflows and the criticality of uptime for patient-care systems
  • Working knowledge of HIPAA and PHI security requirements
  • Experience with networking fundamentals, including VLANs, firewalls, and VPN

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with EHR/EMR platforms
  • Familiarity with medical device networking / biomedical IT integration
  • Certifications such as CompTIA Security+, ITIL, or Microsoft Certified: Identity and Access Administrator
  • Experience with cloud platforms (Azure/AWS) in a hybrid healthcare environment
  • Experience supporting Joint Commission, CMS, or HITRUST audit readiness

Work Environment

  • may require presence in or near clinical areas
  • On-call rotation required for after-hours critical system support
  • Some physical activity may be required, including server room work and moving equipment
