Maintenance Worker (Plumber)

The Maintenance Worker (Plumber) is responsible for testing, repairing, and maintaining all plumbing systems throughout the hospital.

Qualifications:

Required Education:

• High school diploma or GED or the combination of education, knowledge, skills, mental development, and relevant experience that enables performance of all aspects of the position.

Desirable Education:

• Trade school graduate or equivalent.

Required Experience:

• Minimum of three (3) year experience plumbing maintenance experience.

Desirable Experience:

• Apprenticeship in plumbing.

Duties & Responsibilities:

General:

Perform plumbing preventative maintenance work and provide corrective plumbing repair work for hospital departments including off-site clinics and medical buildings.

Troubleshoot and rebuild pumps and repair valves and temperature controls.

Measure, cut, thread, and bend pipe to required angle, using hand and power tools or machines such as pipe cutters, pipe-threading machines, and pipe-bending machines.

Locate and mark the position of pipe installations, connections, passage holes, and fixtures in structures, using measuring instruments such as rulers and levels.

Fill pipes and plumbing fixtures with water or air and observe pressure gauges to detect and locate leaks.

Assemble pipe sections, tubing, and fittings, using couplings, clamps, screws, bolts, cement, plastic solvent, caulking, soldering, brazing, and welding equipment.

Repair pipe assemblies, fittings, values, appliances, water heaters, and fixtures such as sinks and toilets, using hand and power tools.

Cut openings in structures to accommodate pipes and pipe fittings, using hand and power tools.

Review blueprints and building codes and specifications to determine work details and procedures.

Train or provide guidance to Maintenance Workers concerning plumbing issues.

Maintain inventory of plumbing supplies.

Specific:

• Install, repair, and maintain all potable water, sewage, and other piping systems, plumbing fixtures and equipment within the hospital.
• Operate and maintain a variety of plumbing related, mechanical and powered tools and equipment.
• Create and maintain documentation of product material lists, parts, drawings and other project data.
• Lift and move various sized and weighted equipment throughout the hospital.
• Climb to and work aloft at various heights and in various contorted body positions.
• Respond to emergency calls to all departments including off-site clinics and medical buildings.
• Install, repair, and maintain the medical gas system and components.
• Plan jobs, order parts and supplies for the work performed, as well as ordering and stocking common parts used by other maintenance staff.
• Perform other assigned preventative maintenance procedures in a timely manner.
