Job Title: New Model EngineerJob Description

The New Model Engineer collaborates closely with body design and manufacturing teams from feasibility through the design and trial phases to ensure new automotive models can be produced within the factory’s capabilities. This role evaluates new technologies and design concepts, supports trial builds, and works with cross-functional teams to improve quality, cost, delivery, safety, and manufacturability throughout new model development.

Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with body design and manufacturing teams from early feasibility through the design phase to ensure new models can be manufactured within factory capabilities.
  • Conduct feasibility studies on new technologies, design concepts, and equipment to determine suitability for production.
  • Review engineering drawings with internal teams and customers to verify design intent, manufacturability, and alignment with plant capabilities.
  • Identify and analyze past model problem history to prevent recurrence and drive continuous improvement in new models.
  • Assess opportunities for cost savings and evaluate safety concerns related to new model designs and processes.
  • Communicate design and process change points clearly and promptly to other departments to ensure alignment and coordination.
  • Issue countermeasure request forms to the R&D department to address improvements in quality, cost, delivery, safety, and assembly.
  • Develop and deliver project status updates, including change points, risks, recommendations, and progress reports to stakeholders.
  • Identify and document issues encountered during trial builds and work with cross-functional teams to discuss and implement countermeasures.
  • Support resolution of quality problems by analyzing root causes and recommending effective countermeasures.
  • Support equipment installations and assist with robot programming for new model introduction and process changes.
  • Support preparation and execution of build events, including trial builds and pre-production runs, ensuring readiness of equipment, processes, and documentation.
Essential Skills
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent experience.
  • 0–2 years of relevant experience based on education, or 6 years of relevant experience without a related degree.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel for data analysis and reporting.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft PowerPoint for preparing and delivering presentations.
  • Basic knowledge of industrial robots and robot programming.
  • Experience or exposure to automotive engineering or automotive manufacturing environments.
  • Experience supporting new model development or new product introduction in an automotive or related setting.
  • Ability to conduct feasibility studies on new technologies, design concepts, and equipment.
  • Ability to review and interpret engineering drawings and technical documentation.
  • Strong communication skills to convey change points, issues, and recommendations across departments.
  • Capability to identify trial problems, document findings, and develop countermeasures.
  • Understanding of process safety and safe operation of automated equipment and production processes.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience with CATIA V5 is a significant advantage.
  • Experience with CATIA or similar CAD tools for design review and feasibility analysis.
  • Familiarity with DELMIA or other simulation tools for process and equipment simulation.
  • Experience with simulation tools for validating processes and layouts prior to implementation.
  • Background in process engineering, particularly in an automotive or automated manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with automated equipment, including installation, setup, and troubleshooting.
  • Experience working with automotive suppliers or in an automotive supplier environment.
  • Exposure to new model launch activities, including trial builds and build event coordination.
  • Ability to prepare and present clear project status updates and technical presentations.

Work Environment

This role operates within a product engineering and development environment as part of a team of approximately 64 engineers in the PEDx organization. The position involves a mix of research and development activities and on-site work at automotive manufacturing plants, supporting new model introduction and trial builds. The engineer will work closely with cross-functional teams, including design, R&D, quality, and production, and will regularly interact with automated equipment and industrial robots. The environment emphasizes collaboration, problem-solving, and continuous improvement, with access to modern engineering tools such as CAD and simulation software. Work hours typically align with standard engineering and plant support schedules, with occasional flexibility required to support build events, equipment installations, and trial activities on-site.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Marysville, OH.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $45.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
