Staff AccountantLocation: Houston, TX (77079)Employment Type: Full-TimeIndustry: Oil & Gas / Energy / Construction / Industrial Services About the Role We are seeking a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join a growing accounting team supporting operations within the oil & gas, energy, construction, or industrial services industries. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with month-end close, general ledger accounting, account reconciliations, journal entries, and financial reporting, preferably within an operationally focused environment. Key Responsibilities
Assist with the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes
Prepare and post journal entries, accruals, and account adjustments
Perform monthly account and bank reconciliations and research variances
Maintain accurate general ledger accounts and supporting documentation
Assist with preparation of financial statements and internal reporting
Support accounts payable, accounts receivable, billing, and cash application activities as needed
Assist with project, job cost, revenue, or cost accounting depending on business needs
Review transactions for accuracy and proper account coding
Analyze expenses and investigate discrepancies or unusual activity
Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis
Support internal and external audits by providing schedules and documentation
Maintain organized and accurate accounting records
Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and reporting
Perform other accounting and finance responsibilities as needed
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred
2–5 years of accounting experience
Experience in oil & gas, energy, construction, engineering, industrial services, or a related industry strongly preferred
Strong understanding of GAAP and general accounting principles
Hands-on experience with month-end close and general ledger accounting
Experience preparing journal entries and account reconciliations
Strong Excel skills, including formulas, pivot tables, and data analysis
Experience with an ERP/accounting system such as SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, Microsoft Dynamics, Sage Intacct, or similar
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
Ability to prioritize multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment
Strong communication and problem-solving skills
