CNC Machine Operator I (Prep Operator)

Position Summary

The CNC Machine Operator I (Prep Operator) is an entry level manufacturing position responsible for preparing raw materials, loading and unloading CNC machines, performing basic machine operations, and ensuring parts meet quality standards. This role supports production by keeping machines supplied with materials, maintaining a clean and organized work area, and assisting experienced machinists as needed.

No CNC programming experience is required.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Load and unload raw materials and finished parts from CNC machines.
  • Prepare materials for machining by cutting, measuring, labeling, and organizing stock.
  • Perform basic machine operation following established work instructions.
  • Conduct visual inspections and basic dimensional checks using measuring tools such as tape measures, calipers, and gauges.
  • Deburr, clean, and prepare finished parts for the next production step.
  • Package completed parts according to company standards.
  • Maintain accurate production and quality documentation.
  • Keep machines supplied with materials to minimize downtime.
  • Follow all safety procedures and wear required personal protective equipment.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
  • Assist machinists, leads, and supervisors with additional production tasks as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Previous manufacturing, warehouse, machine operation, construction, or mechanical experience is preferred but not required.
  • Mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn.
  • Ability to read a tape measure and perform basic math calculations.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Dependable attendance and positive attitude.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Frequently lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Frequent bending, stooping, reaching, and repetitive hand movements.
  • Ability to safely operate material handling equipment and use hand tools.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience operating or prepping mill, lathe, and similar machines.
  • Familiarity with basic measuring tools.
  • Previous experience in a manufacturing or fabrication environment.
