Job Title: Break Press Operator

Job Description

This role focuses on operating a CNC press brake to perform precise bending and forming operations on metal components. The position requires the ability to set up, program, and run the machine independently while working with tight tolerances to produce quality parts for assembly. You will contribute to custom fabrication projects in a small fabrication shop environment.

Responsibilities

  • Operate a CNC press brake machine to perform bending and forming operations on metal parts.
  • Run bend and forming operations using both standard and custom punches to meet job specifications.
  • Use a CNC controller to input, adjust, and verify machine programs as required for each job.
  • Set up the press brake, including adjusting ram and back gauge locations according to process control instructions and blueprints.
  • Interpret and follow blueprints, process sheets, and work instructions to ensure accurate part production.
  • Work with tight tolerances to produce precise components that meet quality standards.
  • Produce parts for downstream assembly operations, ensuring consistency and repeatability.
  • Set up, run, and troubleshoot all aspects of the CNC press brake machine to minimize downtime.
  • Use measuring tools such as tape measures and other inspection equipment to verify part dimensions.
  • Collaborate with fabrication team members to support custom metal fabrication and welding projects as needed.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area and follow all shop safety procedures.

Essential Skills

  • 2+ years of CNC press brake programming experience.
  • 2+ years of CNC brake press programming and operation experience.
  • Proven experience in a fabrication shop working on a brake press.
  • Ability to independently set up, run, and troubleshoot all aspects of a CNC press brake machine.
  • Strong metal forming experience with the ability to work to tight tolerances.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and process control instructions.
  • Proficiency in using a CNC controller to input and adjust machine parameters.
  • Experience using a tape measure and other basic measuring tools for quality checks.
  • Solid understanding of metal fabrication processes.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Manual CNC experience is a plus.
  • Broader fabrication experience is a strong plus.
  • Experience working in a custom metal fabrication and welding environment is beneficial.
  • Strong problem-solving skills for machine setup and troubleshooting.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.

Work Environment

The position is based in a small custom fabrication and welding shop located in a Southern Indiana industrial park. The role follows a first-shift schedule, typically 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, with the possibility of working up to 60 hours per week during busy periods. The shop is not climate controlled and can be dusty and loud at times due to fabrication and welding activities. You will work around CNC press brakes, metal fabrication equipment, and standard shop tools in a hands-on, production-focused environment.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of New Albany, IN.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $26.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
