Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced Customs Entry Writer with a strong background handling FDA-regulated imports to join an established freight forwarding and customs brokerage operation in Long Beach, CA.
This position is ideal for an Entry Writer who can independently manage customs entries from document review through transmission and release. The successful candidate will have hands-on experience with FDA entries, HTS classification, Partner Government Agency requirements, and CargoWise, along with a strong understanding of U.S. Customs regulations.
Experience handling commodities such as food products, dietary supplements, cosmetics, medical products, or other FDA-regulated goods is highly preferred.
Responsibilities
- Prepare, review, and transmit customs entries accurately and within required deadlines.
- Process import entries for ocean, air, and truck shipments.
- Handle FDA-regulated imports, including required FDA data, documentation, and electronic submissions.
- Review commercial invoices, packing lists, bills of lading, arrival notices, and supporting documentation before entry submission.
- Determine and verify appropriate HTS classifications for imported products.
- Process entries involving FDA, USDA, and other Partner Government Agencies (PGAs).
- Monitor shipments through customs clearance and identify potential entry or documentation issues.
- Respond to FDA holds, examinations, documentation requests, and other release issues.
- Research and resolve discrepancies involving classification, documentation, valuation, country of origin, or regulatory requirements.
- Communicate with importers, carriers, customs officials, government agencies, and internal operations teams regarding shipment status and entry requirements.
- Maintain accurate entry records, shipment information, and supporting documentation within CargoWise.
- Ensure entries comply with applicable U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and PGA requirements.
- Support compliance reviews, recordkeeping, and audit preparation as needed.
- Manage multiple active entries while maintaining accuracy and meeting time-sensitive deadlines.
Qualifications
- 3–5+ years of hands-on Customs Entry Writer experience with a customs broker, freight forwarder, or similar international logistics organization.
- Hands-on FDA entry experience is required.
- Strong working knowledge of HTS classification and customs entry procedures.
- Experience handling FDA, USDA, and other PGA-regulated entries.
- Experience with FDA-regulated commodities such as food, dietary supplements, cosmetics, medical devices, or similar products strongly preferred.
- CargoWise experience is required.
- Experience processing ocean, air, and truck imports.
- Strong understanding of customs documentation and U.S. import regulations.
- Ability to independently review documentation, identify discrepancies, and prepare accurate entries.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to manage a high-volume workload and multiple deadlines.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
