Controller

Robert Half's client in the higher education sector is seeking an experienced Controller/ Consultant to oversee accounting operations, financial reporting, budgeting support, internal controls, and compliance. The ideal candidate will bring strong leadership experience, a background in higher education finance, and hands-on expertise with Sage Intacct. ( ideal). This interim Controller opportunity will be located onsite in Fullerton, CA.

Key Responsibilities:

• Oversee day-to-day accounting operations, including general ledger, month-end, and year-end close

• Prepare and review financial statements and management reports

• Maintain and strengthen internal controls and accounting policies

• Manage budgeting, forecasting, and audit support

• Ensure compliance with applicable regulations, grant reporting, and institutional financial policies

• Supervise accounting staff and support process improvements

• Demonstrated experience serving in a Controller or senior accounting leadership capacity.
• Background in higher education, non-profit, or similarly regulated financial environments.
• Strong command of month-end close activities and monthly financial reporting processes.
• Experience preparing and reviewing monthly financial statements, cash flow statements, and balance sheet reconciliations or reviews.
• Knowledge of internal controls, compliance standards, and audit support responsibilities.
• Proven ability to manage budgeting and forecasting activities with a high degree of accuracy.
• Leadership experience supervising accounting staff and improving finance department operations.
