Assistant Community Manager

Location: San Jose, CA
Pay Rate: $26.00 - $28.00 per hour
Schedule: Full-Time
Position Type: Ongoing Contract

Overview

We are seeking an organized and customer-focused Assistant Community Manager to support the day-to-day operations of an affordable housing community in San Jose. This ongoing contract opportunity is ideal for candidates with property management, leasing, affordable housing, or community management experience who enjoy making a positive impact on residents and the community.

Key Responsibilities
  • Schedule income verification appointments and process lease agreements.
  • Maintain applicant waitlists and resident records.
  • Assist with annual and interim recertifications and affordable housing compliance reviews.
  • Prepare and distribute resident notices.
  • Coordinate unit turnover activities and vacancy tracking.
  • Support rent collection, security deposit processing, petty cash reconciliation, and bank deposits.
  • Conduct regular property inspections and identify maintenance or safety concerns.
  • Coordinate maintenance inspections and track completion of work orders.
  • Maintain resident and property files while ensuring confidentiality.
  • Support communication regarding emergency preparedness procedures.
  • Coordinate resident meetings and community events.
  • Collaborate with local agencies and service providers as needed.
  • Perform additional administrative and operational duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Previous experience in property management, affordable housing, community management, leasing, or a related field.
  • Knowledge of affordable housing programs, income certifications, or compliance processes preferred.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office; experience with property management software is a plus.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent customer service and resident relations abilities.
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team environment.
  • Valid California driver's license, current auto insurance, and reliable transportation.
Preferred Skills
  • Experience with affordable housing, tax credit communities, income-restricted housing programs, or multifamily property management.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong problem-solving and conflict-resolution skills.
  • Comfortable working with diverse populations and community stakeholders.
