We are looking for an experienced Controller to support a wholesale food distribution organization in the Bronx, NY on a Long-term Contract basis. This position will lead critical year-end accounting activities, help ensure accurate financial reporting, and provide steady oversight through the audit period. The ideal candidate brings strong hands-on experience with close processes, financial statements, payroll review, and reporting within a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities:
• Direct the full year-end close process to ensure accounts are reconciled, deadlines are met, and financial results are accurately finalized.
• Prepare and review year-end financial statements and supporting schedules for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with reporting requirements.
• Partner with internal stakeholders and external auditors by organizing documentation, responding to audit requests, and helping drive the audit process through completion.
• Oversee year-end reporting activities, delivering timely financial information and analysis to support leadership decision-making.
• Review year-end payroll activity and related records to confirm proper accounting treatment and resolve discrepancies as needed.
• Manage day-to-day accounting oversight within QuickBooks while maintaining reliable financial records and internal controls.
• Provide on-site financial leadership four days per week to support collaboration, issue resolution, and operational continuity.
• Assist with accounting-related work tied to broader platform changes as needed, while remaining focused on close and audit support priorities.
• Proven experience serving in a Controller or senior accounting leadership role in the food distribution/grocery industry.
• Strong background managing year-end close, audit preparation, and finalization of annual financial statements.
• Hands-on knowledge of QuickBooks in a business accounting environment.
• Demonstrated ability to support year-end reporting and payroll-related accounting review.
• Solid understanding of accounting controls, reconciliations, and financial accuracy standards.
• Ability to work effectively in an on-site setting four days per week.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage deadlines during high-volume reporting periods.
