LHH is seeking a Human Resources Manager with Union Experience!

Locations: East Bay, CA (Hybrid)

Employment Type: Full-Time

Compensation: Competitive salary based on experience

About the Opportunity

A well-established nonprofit organization serving a diverse workforce across multiple locations is seeking an experienced Human Resources Manager to lead employee relations, labor relations, policy development, compliance, and HR operations. This role is a strategic partner to leadership and plays a critical role in fostering a positive workplace culture while ensuring compliance with employment laws and collective bargaining agreements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Partner with executive leadership on employee relations, workplace investigations, and conflict resolution.
  • Lead and support labor relations initiatives, including collective bargaining preparation, negotiations, contract administration, and union-management collaboration.
  • Develop, update, and implement HR policies, procedures, and employee handbook content.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and organizational policies.
  • Oversee workers' compensation, accommodations, leave administration, and return-to-work programs.
  • Supervise and mentor HR staff while supporting day-to-day HR operations.
  • Collaborate with leadership on performance management, employee engagement, retention, and workforce planning initiatives.
  • Assist with HR reporting, audits, and regulatory requirements.
  • Deliver training and guidance to managers on employee relations, labor relations, and HR best practices.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in human resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • 7+ years of progressive Human Resources experience.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in:
    • Union negotiations and labor relations
    • Employee relations and workplace investigations
    • HR policy development and implementation
  • Strong knowledge of California employment law, labor relations, and collective bargaining agreements.
  • Experience managing disciplinary actions, grievances, conflict resolution, and compliance matters.
  • Previous experience supervising HR staff and supporting HR operations.
  • Strong written, verbal, analytical, and presentation skills.
  • Advanced proficiency with HRIS systems, Microsoft Excel, and reporting tools.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in a related field.
  • SHRM-SCP, SPHR, PHR, or comparable HR certification.
  • Experience in a nonprofit, healthcare, social services, government, or other unionized environment.
  • Strong facilitation, training, and change management experience.
