Pharmacist In Charge (PIC)
Location: Nacogdoches, TX 75961
Employment Type: Full-Time
Schedule: Monday–Friday | Typically 8:00 AM–5:00 PM

Position Overview

The Pharmacist In Charge (PIC) is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the pharmacy while ensuring the safe, accurate, and compliant dispensing of medications. This role provides hands-on pharmacy leadership, supervises pharmacy technicians, manages workflow and inventory, and ensures compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations.

The ideal candidate will have strong retail pharmacy management experience, excellent leadership skills, and a thorough understanding of pharmacy operations and regulatory requirements.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Review and verify prescriptions for accuracy, appropriateness, and legal compliance.
  • Prepare and dispense medications accurately and efficiently.
  • Provide medication counseling and education to patients.
  • Maintain accurate patient medication profiles and dispensing records.
  • Oversee daily pharmacy workflow and optimize operational efficiency.
  • Manage inventory, including stocking, labeling, expiration monitoring, and appropriate storage.
  • Supervise, train, and provide direction to pharmacy technicians.
  • Assist with technician performance evaluations and address performance or behavioral concerns.
  • Develop and manage technician schedules to ensure appropriate staffing coverage.
  • Ensure compliance with HIPAA, Fraud, Waste & Abuse, and applicable pharmacy regulations.
  • Ensure pharmacy operations comply with federal, state, and local laws, as well as organizational policies and procedures.
  • Effectively utilize pharmacy patient management and dispensing systems.
  • Support quality improvement and other pharmacy operational initiatives as needed.
Required Qualifications

  • Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) required.
  • Active Pharmacist License required.
  • Minimum 3–5 years of retail pharmacy management experience.
  • Previous retail pharmacy experience required.
  • Demonstrated experience supervising pharmacy technicians and managing daily pharmacy operations.
  • Experience with pharmacy patient management/dispensing systems.
  • Strong knowledge of pharmacy compliance and regulatory requirements.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience serving as a Pharmacist In Charge (PIC).
  • Proven experience leading pharmacy staff and managing pharmacy workflow.
  • Experience with inventory management, staffing, and operational performance.
Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Ability to perform tasks requiring fine motor skills and manual dexterity.
  • Ability to safely handle and operate standard pharmacy equipment and tools.
