Job Title: Mixer Operator

Job Description

This role operates filler and mixing equipment in a refrigerated food and beverage production facility that produces hummus and salsa. You will work on a designated shift, fully suited in appropriate PPE, and ensure products are accurately filled, safely handled, and meet strict quality and food safety standards.

Responsibilities

  • Operate and oversee filler machines that dispense product into plastic containers according to production requirements.
  • Learn and follow the complete process for making and filling hummus and salsa products.
  • Monitor fill levels and perform regular weight checks, adjusting machine settings to maintain accurate weights.
  • Ensure the correct cups and packaging are used in accordance with customer specifications.
  • Perform basic troubleshooting on equipment, such as adjusting seals, adding cups, and adding lids as needed.
  • Conduct machine washdowns and changeovers following established flow charts and sanitation procedures.
  • Keep supplies neat, organized, and protected to support efficient and safe production.
  • Maintain a sanitation bucket at all times and follow all hygiene and cleaning protocols.
  • Follow all SQF and GMP policies and procedures to uphold food safety and quality standards.
  • Report any food safety or product quality concerns immediately to quality personnel or management.
  • Use computer interfaces for machine operation and navigation as required during production.
  • Perform visual inspections of equipment and product to identify issues and maintain quality.
  • Handle multiple tasks at once while tending to machines and supporting continuous production.

Essential Skills

  • Experience tending to a machine while performing multiple tasks simultaneously in a production or industrial environment.
  • Basic troubleshooting skills, including adjusting seals, adding cups, and adding lids on filling or similar equipment.
  • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds safely and repeatedly during the shift.
  • Comfort using a computer, including basic navigation such as toggling through applications on a phone or computer.
  • Experience using a scale and understanding weights, including adding and subtracting to verify correct fill levels.
  • Ability to follow detailed procedures and safety guidelines in a food or industrial setting.
  • Reliability in attendance and transportation to consistently meet scheduled shifts.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience in food and beverage production is preferred but not required.
  • Experience in industrial or automotive environments is valuable and transferable.
  • Familiarity with industrial equipment such as filling machines and mixers.
  • Exposure to equipment that runs on pneumatics and hydraulics, with valves and hoses.
  • Comfort working in cold, refrigerated production areas.
  • Ability to work mandatory Saturday shifts and potentially occasional Sunday shifts as needed.

Work Environment

The role is based in a food and beverage manufacturing facility where hummus and salsa are produced. Most areas dedicated to these products are cold due to refrigerated conditions required for food safety. You will wear full personal protective equipment, including a lab coat, hair net, beard net if applicable, and rubber gloves, whenever you are in food production areas. Work is performed on set shifts, with available schedules including 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., 2:30 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., and 10:30 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. Operations run Monday through Friday, with mandatory Saturday work and potential Sunday shifts based on production needs. The environment is structured, process-driven, and focused on cleanliness, organization, and adherence to food safety standards.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Ferndale, MI.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $16.25 - $16.25/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
