We are seeking an experiencedProperty Accountant to join our accounting team. This role is responsible for the financial accounting and reporting of a portfolio of commercial real estate entities while working closely with property management, operations, and executive leadership.

Position Summary

The Property Accountant will oversee the full-cycle accounting process for multiple commercial real estate entities, including general ledger accounting, financial reporting, account reconciliations, accounts payable, and month-end close activities. The ideal candidate is organized, detail-oriented, and thrives in a deadline-driven environment.

Essential Responsibilities

• Manage full-cycle accounting for assigned commercial real estate entities.
• Prepare and post journal entries.
• Perform monthly bank and balance sheet reconciliations.
• Prepare accurate monthly financial statements.
• Process accounts payable, including invoice review, coding, approvals, and payment processing.
• Maintain general ledger accuracy and integrity.
• Record accruals, prepaids, amortizations, and allocations.
• Prepare supporting schedules and variance analyses.
• Assist with month-end and year-end close processes.
• Support audits, tax preparation, and financial reporting requests.
• Maintain organized accounting records and supporting documentation.
• Partner with property management and operations regarding financial matters.
• Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and internal controls.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred.
• 3+ years of accounting experience required.
• Property accounting or commercial real estate accounting experience strongly preferred.
• Strong understanding of:
  • General Ledger Accounting
  • Financial Statement Preparation
  • Bank Reconciliations
  • Accounts Payable
  • Month-End Close
• Experience with accounting software/ERP systems.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
• Excellent organizational and time management skills.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to manage multiple entities and deadlines simultaneously.

How We Determine What We Pay

Howard CDM determines pay for positions using local, national, and industry-specific survey data. We evaluate external equity and the cost of labor/prevailing wage index in the relative marketplace for jobs directly comparable to jobs within our company. Our posted salary range is based on national data and may be refined for a candidate's region/town/cost of living.

For new hires, we strive to make competitive offers allowing the new employee room for future growth. Salaries will be based on the applicant’s location, level of experience, education, and specialized knowledge and skills. Additionally, we consider the external market rate, the amount we have budgeted internally, and internal equity within the company for the same position. An employee/candidate with a stronger skill set will receive higher pay.
