We are seeking a highly motivated Design/Build Project Manager who is passionate about the construction process to join a growing team in Richmond, Virginia. In this role, you take ownership of project performance and profitability from day one, working closely with clients and design teams from initial concept through execution and completion. This position offers strong training, professional development, and the opportunity to manage industrial, commercial, and data center projects in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities
  • Lead design/build construction projects from conceptualization through execution to completion, ensuring alignment with client goals, schedule, and budget.
  • Take responsibility for overall project performance and profit, actively monitoring costs, schedules, and quality throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Coordinate with clients, design teams, subcontractors, and internal stakeholders to maintain clear communication and deliver successful project outcomes.
  • Review, interpret, and work from engineering drawings and construction documents, ensuring design intent is accurately implemented in the field.
  • Manage project planning activities, including scheduling, resource allocation, and coordination of project milestones using tools such as Microsoft Project.
  • Support project estimating efforts by reviewing plans, specifications, and scope to help develop accurate cost estimates for commercial and industrial projects.
  • Oversee project engineering tasks, including technical coordination for mechanical, electrical, civil, and environmental aspects of design/build projects.
  • Utilize AutoCAD and other design tools as needed to support project design, coordination, and documentation.
  • Prepare and maintain project documentation, including reports, meeting minutes, correspondence, and change management records using Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Visit job sites regularly to monitor progress, address issues, and collaborate with field teams to ensure safety, quality, and schedule adherence.
  • Support construction management activities, including sequencing of work, coordination of trades, and resolution of technical and logistical challenges.
  • Collaborate with senior project leaders and participate in training programs to continuously develop project management and technical skills.
Essential Skills
  • Engineering degree in construction management, mechanical engineering, civil engineering, electrical engineering, environmental engineering, or a closely related discipline.
  • 1–5 years of relevant experience in construction, engineering, project management, project coordination, or project engineering, preferably in a design/build environment.
  • Demonstrated interest in construction, supported by internships or industry experience in commercial or industrial projects.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and work with engineering drawings and construction documents in collaboration with a design team.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD for design, coordination, and documentation tasks.
  • Experience or strong exposure to commercial construction projects and related estimating activities.
  • Technical understanding of mechanical and electrical engineering concepts as they apply to construction projects.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Microsoft Project for project planning, communication, and documentation.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities on active projects.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills for working with clients, design professionals, subcontractors, and internal teams.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience in industrial, commercial, or data center construction projects.
  • Background in project engineering within a design/build contracting environment.
  • Prior exposure to cost estimation and budgeting for construction projects.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary project team.
  • Motivation to grow within a structured training program for project managers.
  • Interest in long-term career development in construction project management and design/build delivery.
Work Environment

This role is based in an office in the Richmond, Virginia area, with regular travel to job sites approximately 1–2 days per week. Most projects are located within about an hour’s radius of Richmond, allowing for a balance of office-based planning and on-site coordination. You work in a professional environment that leverages modern tools and technologies, including AutoCAD and Microsoft Office applications, to manage industrial, commercial, and data center projects. Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $75000.00 - $95000.00/yr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
