Summary
A leading national engineering and design consulting firm is seeking a Senior Structural Engineer to join a specialized Forensics and Facility Performance team. This role is focused on existing buildings rather than traditional ground-up design. The engineer will investigate structural conditions, assess existing facilities, identify failures or deficiencies, and develop practical repair, rehabilitation, and restoration solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform forensic structural investigations and existing building evaluations
- Conduct facility condition assessments and site investigations
- Evaluate structural failures, deterioration, damage, and complex building conditions
- Develop repair, rehabilitation, and restoration solutions
- Support adaptive reuse, renovation, and historic building projects
- Prepare technical reports, assessments, calculations, and recommendations
- Design repairs involving steel, concrete, wood, and masonry systems
- Lead projects from initial investigation through design and implementation
- Work directly with building owners, clients, and multidisciplinary project teams
- Mentor junior engineers and provide technical leadership
- Support client relationships and new project opportunities
Requirements
- 10+ years of structural engineering / building design consulting experience
- PE license required
- Strong experience with existing buildings and structural systems
- Forensic investigations, facility assessments, rehabilitation, restoration, or structural repair experience
- Strong technical analysis and report writing skills
- Experience with steel, concrete, wood, and masonry
- Strong knowledge of mechanics, materials, load paths, and building codes
- Project leadership and mentoring experience
- Strong client-facing and communication skills
- Bachelor's degree in Civil, Structural, or related Engineering discipline
