The Chocker is responsible for safely securing automobiles within vehicle carriers for transport and removing all securing equipment upon arrival. This role focuses on precise vehicle positioning, proper use of chocks and straps, and consistent adherence to safety procedures in a physically active, outdoor work environment.

Responsibilities
  • Secure each vehicle within the carrier by correctly placing and removing chocks on each car wheel.
  • Ensure the precise positioning of automobiles within carriers to maintain safety and stability during transport.
  • Apply and remove straps to secure vehicles in the carrier according to established procedures.
  • At the arrival terminal, remove all chocks and straps from vehicles in a safe and orderly manner.
  • Wear and properly use all required personal protective equipment while working.
  • Take responsibility for personal safety and follow all safety guidelines and protocols on the job.
  • Work from written assignment sheets and accurately sign off work completed on printed forms.
  • Read and interpret operational manuals and follow instructions for equipment and procedures.
  • Respond promptly to requests for service and assistance from team members and supervisors.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding company information and operational details.
  • Handle work under pressure and tight deadlines while maintaining quality and safety standards.
  • Manage conflict resolution professionally and constructively when issues arise.
  • Work independently and unsupervised while maintaining productivity and safety.
  • Adapt to working in all weather conditions and varying hours based on train arrivals and departures.

Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience in production or general labor environments.
  • Experience with strapping or securing materials and equipment.
  • Ability to work odd hours and split shifts, including days, nights, and weekends.
  • Willingness to work in all weather conditions.
  • Ability to adapt to varying start times and schedule changes based on operational needs.

Work Environment

This role is based in a physically active, outdoor and industrial setting around vehicle carriers and moving mechanical parts. You regularly work in all weather conditions, with exposure to outside elements and occasional fumes or airborne particles. The noise level is usually moderate. Shifts start between 8:00 AM and 11:00 AM, with 6-hour shifts scheduled 5–6 days per week, including every weekend, and 1–2 days off during the week. The position requires a willingness to work odd hours and split shifts, including days, nights, and weekends, and the ability to work alone and unsupervised while maintaining safety and productivity.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Lorton, VA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $18.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
