Position Overview

The Service Manager leads and manages the generator service department, ensuring safe, efficient, and highquality delivery of maintenance, repair, testing, commissioning, and emergency services for industrial power systems. This role is responsible for technician oversight, workflow coordination, customer satisfaction, and adherence to industry standards and safety protocols.

Responsibilities:

Operational Leadership

  • Direct daily operations of generator service activities, including preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, retrofits, and emergency response
  • Coordinate technician schedules, dispatching, and resource allocation to meet customer demands and service deadlines
  • Oversee service workflows to ensure jobs are completed on time, within budget, and in compliance with manufacturer and industry standards
  • Monitor KPIs, invoicing, revenue, and departmental performance metrics

Technical & Quality Oversight

  • Serve as the final escalation point for complex diagnostics, warranty issues, and customer complaints
  • Provide technical guidance to technicians, customers, electrical contractors, and engineers regarding generator systems and power solutions
  • Lead rootcause analysis for recurring technical issues and implement corrective actions
  • Ensure compliance with safety protocols, OSHA requirements, and environmental/industry regulations

Team Management & Development

  • Manage, coach, and mentor field technicians and supervisors, promoting skill advancement and certification compliance
  • Coordinate ongoing training, certification programs, and quality assurance initiatives
  • Conduct performance evaluations and support professional development

Customer & Vendor Relations

  • Maintain strong customer relationships through timely communication, expert support, and reliable service delivery
  • Work with parts departments and thirdparty vendors to ensure materials and support are available for service operations
  • Travel as needed

Administrative & Business Support

  • Review and approve timecards, PTO, service orders, and field documentation
  • Assist with estimating service projects, quoting repairs, and supporting service sales initiatives
  • Provide weekly reports to management on operational performance, challenges, and opportunities

Requirements:

Education & Experience

  • 5–10 years of experience in generator service, power systems, or industrial electrical service operations
  • Experience managing field service teams and coordinating multisite operations

Technical Skills

  • Strong knowledge of diesel, natural gas, and propane generator systems
  • Ability to read wiring diagrams, mechanical layouts, and blueprints
  • Familiarity with switchgear, ATS units, controls, and power distribution systems
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and field service management software
