Job purpose
The Maintenance Mechanic is responsible formaintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing production equipment to minimize downtime and ensure operational efficiency. This role plays a key part in the short- and annual turnaround process andensuresthat all machinerycomplies withsafety and operational standards.
Additionally, this role supports plant operationsusing multiple disciplinessuch aselectrical, mechanical, electronic and instrumentationtroubleshooting,maintenanceand repair on a variety of equipment.This roleensuressafe,reliable,and efficient manufacturing operationsas well as supports facilities maintenance efforts.
Duties and responsibilities
The responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to, the following:
Perform routine inspections, maintenance, and repairs on production machinery,includingpumps, valves, and otherancillarysystems to ensureoptimalperformance.
Diagnose mechanicaland electricalproblems and implement solutions to minimize downtime and production interruptions.This may include Mechanical, Hydraulic, Pneumatic, Electrical andInstrumentation.
Participate in the short- and annualturnaround process, contributing to scheduled maintenance and reliability assessments tooptimizelong-term equipment performance.
Follow preventative maintenance schedules and ensure that all equipment is serviced regularly to reducethe likelihoodof breakdowns.
ActivelyparticipateinProcess Hazard Analysis (PHA) and Pre- start-up Safety Reviews (PSSR).
Identifyand replace faulty parts andmaintainan inventory of essential componentsto ensure quick repairs and minimal downtime.
Adhere to all safety protocols, industrystandardsand environmental regulations, including but not limited to Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), confined space entry, and hazardous material handling, tomaintaina safe working environment.
Regularly complete and stay up to date on required safety and operational training.
Maintain detailed records of maintenance activities, repairs, and equipment performance to ensure complianceand operational transparency.
Work closely with operators, electricians, and production teams toidentifyequipment issues early and coordinate repairs without disrupting production.
Maintainworkspace and plant cleanliness, organization, and operational readiness ensuring a well-kept and efficient work environment.
Adhere to company policies, procedures, and uphold the organization’s values in all tasks and interactions.
Support Engineering withinstallation of basic to intermediate control and instrumentation systems
Troubleshoot, repair, calibrate, andmaintainmechanical systems,electronic controls, instrumentation, and standard power systems using manuals, blueprints, schematics, precision measuringinstrumentsand hand/power tools.
Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.This is a versatile position.
Skills and Qualifications
Skills include:
Strong understanding ofElectrical andmechanical systems, machinery, and equipment in achemicalmanufacturingenvironmentpreferred.
Ability to diagnose and resolve mechanicaland electricalissues efficiently.
Knowledge of maintenance procedures and the ability to follow preventative maintenance schedules.
Strong commitment to safetystandards with the ability to follow safety protocols and regulations in a chemical manufacturing environment.
Ability to perform detailed inspections.
Ability to work in physically demanding conditions, including lifting, working in confined spaces, andoperatingin hazardous environments.
Proficiencyin SAP S/4Hana, DMC, and Microsoft Officeis a plus.
Familiarity with Class 1, Division 2Locations and related standards is a plus
Strong written and verbal communication skillsare important.
Qualifications include:
High school diploma or equivalent required. Vocational or technical training inIndustrialmaintenanceis preferred.Completion of an Industrial maintenance apprenticeship is a plus.
3+ years of experience inamanufacturing environment, preferably chemical manufacturing.
Relevant certifications inIndustrialmaintenance or safetyare a plus.
Working conditions
This position requiresperforming duties in an active chemical plant with exposure to hazardous chemicals, extreme temperatures,high noise, vibrations, confined spaces, and elevated work areas, requiring strict adherence tosafety protocols, PPE, rotating shifts, overtime, and potential on-call duties.
This position may require minimal travel.
Physical requirements
Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, climbing, and lifting. Tasks may involve confined spaces, elevated areas, and working under equipment.
