Job Description
We are looking for an experienced Corporate Counsel to join a growing organization in Rochester, New York. In this role, you will work closely with company leadership to deliver practical legal guidance that supports business goals, manages risk, and promotes regulatory compliance. This position offers the opportunity to influence key decisions across contracts, disputes, and day-to-day operations while serving as a dependable legal advisor throughout the business.
Responsibilities:
• Provide business-focused legal counsel to leaders and internal stakeholders on operational, commercial, and strategic matters.
• Prepare, evaluate, and negotiate a broad range of agreements to protect the company’s interests and support ongoing business activity.
• Advise on disputes before and during litigation, analyze potential exposure, and coordinate with external counsel when specialized support is required.
• Examine applicable statutes, regulations, and legal developments, then translate findings into practical recommendations for the organization.
• Help strengthen compliance efforts by guiding adherence to legal obligations, regulatory standards, and company policies.
• Review insurance programs and related risk considerations to help maintain appropriate coverage across the business.
• Partner with senior leadership on growth initiatives, risk management questions, and other priority legal matters.
• Contribute to special projects and emerging legal needs as the organization evolves.• Juris Doctor from an accredited law school.
• At least five years of legal experience in corporate, business, or comparable practice settings, including relevant law firm experience.
• Active license to practice law in the applicable jurisdiction, or ability to obtain admission within 12 months.
• Record of good standing with no significant disciplinary history in any jurisdiction.
• Strong contract drafting and negotiation abilities demonstrated through complex commercial matters.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain legal issues clearly to non-lawyers and executives.
• Proven ability to manage multiple priorities independently in a fast-moving environment while maintaining close attention to detail.
• Experience supporting an in-house legal team is preferred.
