Core Responsibilities

  • Perform field inspections of roadway construction activities to verify compliance with contract plans, specifications, permits, and applicable standards.
  • Monitor and inspect utility construction activities, including water main and sewer main installations, to ensure quality workmanship and conformance with project requirements.
  • Review and interpret roadway plans, engineering drawings, specifications, and construction schedules to support inspection activities and identify potential issues.
  • Document daily construction operations, quantities completed, workforce and equipment utilization, weather conditions, and project progress.
  • Coordinate with contractors, utility providers, engineers, and agency representatives to resolve field issues and maintain project schedules.
  • Communicate inspection findings, construction concerns, and project updates to clients, project managers, and engineering staff in a timely and professional manner.
  • Verify materials, construction methods, and completed work meet project specifications, safety requirements, and regulatory standards.
  • Attend project meetings and provide field observations, technical support, and recommendations regarding roadway and utility construction activities.

You’ll thrive here if you have

  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience as a Field Inspector or equivalent construction field experience on public works projects, including roadway, paving, sidewalk, and utility improvements.
  • Experience inspecting water main installations, sewer main installations, treatment plant construction, or related utility infrastructure is preferred.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and apply engineering drawings, construction plans, specifications, and contract documents.
  • Knowledge of construction inspection practices, quality assurance procedures, and public works construction standards.
  • Ability to verify contractor work for compliance with project plans, specifications, standards, and contract requirements.
  • Experience measuring, tracking, and verifying completed work quantities and supporting project documentation.
  • Strong communication and coordination skills with engineers, contractors, clients, and project stakeholders.
  • Ability to prepare accurate daily inspection reports and maintain detailed records of construction activities, progress, and field observations.
  • Willingness and ability to travel locally to project sites; overnight travel is not required.
