Civil Engineer - Designer - EIT IV

Exercise independent engineering judgment, own technical decisions, and lead others. As a Civil Designer IV, you'll operate with autonomy, exercising independent engineering judgment to resolve complex, design problems with minimal oversight. You'll be trusted to make technical decisions on assigned work, may direct the work of others, and carry daily client contact and occasional business development responsibilities. This role is for licensed or near-licensed civil engineers ready to combine deep technical expertise with independent decision-making ability and project leadership.

• Resolve resolve moderate-to-complex, and often unprecedented, design problems using field investigations, engineering computations, and sound professional judgment, with minimal need for supervisory review
• Exercise judgement on assigned design calculations and engineering analyses across the full range of civil systems, including drainage/hydrology, storm pipe sizing, detention pond design, water distribution, wastewater collection, sewer pumping, sediment control, and pavement design
• Independently interpret code and ordinance requirements, permitting procedures, and design methodologies, and determine the appropriate technical approach for each assignment
• Take ownership of construction plans, specifications, reports, studies, cost estimates, and permit applications from concept through completion, escalating only unconventional or high-risk decisions
• Direct and review the work of CADD or Engineering Technicians on a project or task basis, including resolving technical conflicts within the team
• Hold responsibility for the technical accuracy and quality of your own work and work prepared by others under your direction
• Carry daily client contact at the staff level, independently fielding technical questions and making in-the-moment decisions; attend meetings on behalf of the company with clients, contractors, or resource agencies, and make presentations related to specific assignments
• Participate in marketing and business development activities and may represent the company at technical conferences
• Work closely with other disciplines on multi-discipline projects, coordinating independently across teams without requiring a project manager as intermediary
• Assist in the preparation of project budgets, schedules, and proposals, using independent judgment to flag risk and scope changes

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering
• 4+ years of experience designing land development projects using Civil 3D, with a demonstrated record of working independently on complex assignments
• EIT/FE certification and Professional Engineer (PE) registration, or ability to obtain PE licensure within one year
• Strong knowledge of AutoCAD Civil 3D software
• Demonstrated ability to exercise independent engineering judgment and make sound technical decisions without close oversight
• Working ability with financial reporting tools to evaluate project performance and understand key project performance indicators
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with demonstrated leadership, decision-making, and conflict-resolution ability
