SUMMARY
Accurately and efficiently cook meats, vegetables, soups, desserts and other hot food products as well as prepare and portion food products prior to cooking. Provide support to all areas of the caf, the Citizens of BiG, customers and volunteers.
- ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

- Prepare a variety of meats, poultry, vegetables and other food items in broilers, ovens, grills and a variety of other kitchen equipment according to standardized recipes
- Knows and complies consistently with standard portion sizes, cooking methods, quality standards and kitchen rules, policies and procedures.
- Stocks and maintains sufficient levels of food products at line stations to assure a smooth service period.
- Maintains a clean and sanitary kitchen including tables, shelves, grills, broilers, oven, flat top range, refrigeration equipment and floors. Follows and adheres to all tasks and duties as required in opening/closing check lists as well as Daily and Weekly Cleaning Charts.
- Follows proper plating, portioning and garnishing instructions. Assumes 100% responsibility for quality of products served under his/her preparation.
- Coordinate and execute food preparation for special events and catering functions.Make specialty coffee, drinks, and smoothies.
- Wash and put away dishes.
- Looks after the safety of guests, Citizens, volunteers and co-workers and immediately reports any unsafe working conditions to their supervisor. Always initiates safe work habits and never takes chances or risks personal injury.
- Fill in FOH as requested which will include taking food to guests, bussing and cleaning tables, refiling drink stations and being attentive to the needs of our guests.
- Undertake additional tasks as needed to support the efficient operation of the caf.
- Understand that schedules may change depending on needs in caf. Additionally, hours are not limited to hours of operation as we also cater special events and may extend hours of operation during high volume seasons
- SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Be willing and able to work alongside adults with special needs as well as volunteers. While you may not have direct supervision of them, you will need to be able to work together and direct as needed.

- Education and Experience – The candidate should have some restaurant background, prefer a minimum of one-year related experience and /or training.
- Skills and Abilities - Must possess above average interpersonal skills, including the ability to work effectively with co-workers and guests at all levels within BiG.
- Language Skills- Candidate must have good oral and written communication skills
- Mathematical Skills- Must have the ability to calculate and apply concepts of basic business math. Must be able to balance cash drawer and calculate average dollar transactions.
- Reasoning Ability – Candidates should have the ability to solve practical problems and apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Must be able to multi-task and prioritize duties
- Certificates, Licenses, Registrations -Texas Food Handler's Certification
- Personal Skills- Work patiently and compassionately alongside adults with special needs in a God -centered environment. Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision to perform job responsibilities. Must be able to remain calm and composed during times of stress.
- PHYSICAL DEMANDS – The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Required to use hands and arms to lift and stock shelves, Candidate will be standing or on their feet for long periods of time. Climbing a step ladder, stooping, kneeling, or crouching may be required. Ability to lift or move up to 50 pounds. - WORK ENVIRONMENT – The kitchen is a climate-controlled environment, but it does get warm, especially when ovens are on. The caf requires you to be in close physical proximity to other workers.
