Milestone Treatment Center is a growing behavioral healthcare organization providing substance use disorder and mental health treatment services across multiple locations throughout the United States.
We are seeking an experienced Patient Financial Representative to join our team and help patients and their families understand and resolve their financial responsibilities related to treatment.
Position SummaryThe Patient Financial Representative is responsible for collecting outstanding patient balances, including copays, deductibles, housing payments, self-pay balances, and other patient financial obligations.
This role works directly with patients and families to explain account balances and insurance benefits, secure payments, follow up on insurance payments issued directly to patients, and establish appropriate payment arrangements.
The ideal candidate has experience in medical collections, patient financial services, patient accounts, or healthcare revenue cycle and is comfortable navigating sensitive financial conversations with professionalism, empathy, and accountability.
ResponsibilitiesContact patients and families regarding outstanding balances and payment obligations.
Collect copays, deductibles, housing payments, self-pay balances, and other patient financial responsibilities.
Follow up on insurance payments issued directly to patients and assist with recovering amounts owed.
Establish and manage payment arrangements in accordance with company policies.
Clearly explain insurance benefits, patient responsibility, account balances, and payment expectations.
Respond to patient financial questions by phone, email, and in person.
Prepare invoices, payment reminders, and collection correspondence.
Maintain accurate documentation of collection activity, payments, and patient communications.
Partner with admissions, billing, and clinical teams to resolve account discrepancies and financial issues.
Protect patient information and maintain HIPAA compliance and confidentiality at all times.
High school diploma or GED required.
2+ years of experience in medical collections, patient financial services, patient accounts, or healthcare revenue cycle strongly preferred.
Experience collecting patient balances, deductibles, copays, or self-pay accounts strongly preferred.
Working knowledge of commercial health insurance, benefits, deductibles, and patient responsibility.
Behavioral health, substance use treatment, or other healthcare experience preferred.
Strong phone communication and negotiation skills.
Comfortable discussing outstanding balances and requesting payment directly from patients and families.
Ability to balance empathy and professionalism with accountability for payment.
Strong organizational skills and attention to documentation.
Proficiency with Google Workspace and standard office technology.
