Job Title: Patternmaker Assistant
Location & Schedule
- Location: Chattanooga, TN
- Position Type: Full-time, 40 hours per week
- Compensation: $18.00 – $25.00 per hour (Depending on Experience)
Job Overview
We are seeking a precise, detail-oriented Patternmaker Assistant to join our team in Chattanooga, TN. In this role, you will work directly alongside senior patternmakers to fabricate, repair, and maintain high-quality pattern tooling and coreboxes. We specialize strictly in manufacturing tooling using wood, metal, and plastics for the foundry industry. The ideal candidate is a dedicated team player with a positive attitude who enjoys a collaborative, fast-paced shop environment and is eager to master precision tooling techniques.
Key Responsibilities
Tooling Fabrication & Assembly
- Assist in building master patterns and coreboxes from wood, plastics, and metals based on customer engineering specifications.
Machine Operation & Maintenance
- Operate standard woodworking machinery including bandsaws, sanders, and drill presses under senior supervision.
- Clean and finish surfaces using hand tools, files, and scrapers to achieve exact geometric tolerances.
Skills and Qualifications
Education & Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical school training in woodworking, machining, or trade skills is highly valued.
- Previous experience in a pattern shop, cabinetry shop, or similar is preferred.
Professional & Technical Skills
- Basic proficiency in reading blueprints or industrial technical drawings.
- Strong practical math skills.
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions
- Ability to stand, bend, and lift up to 50 lbs throughout a shift.
- Comfort working in a traditional shop atmosphere.
- Strong commitment to safety and consistent use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
