First Call – The Direct Hire Division is seeking an experienced Controls Engineer for a direct-hire opportunity with an established manufacturing company in Waukesha, Wisconsin.
This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on Controls Engineer with strong PLC programming and automation experience. We are specifically looking for someone who has the technical ability to design and build PLC controls from scratch and troubleshoot complex manufacturing and test equipment.
What You’ll Do
- Design, develop, program, and troubleshoot PLC-based control systems.
- Support controls for production equipment, test equipment, and plant electrical systems.
- Develop testing protocols, equipment specifications, and test data collection processes.
- Program and support PLC and HMI applications.
- Troubleshoot controls and equipment failures and perform root cause analysis.
- Support the design, development, validation, installation, and improvement of manufacturing equipment.
- Develop interfaces between SQL databases and production systems.
- Help ensure equipment and controls meet electrical safety and OSHA requirements.
- Partner with manufacturing, engineering, quality, safety, suppliers, and other cross-functional teams.
- Support capital equipment selection and new product/process initiatives.
- Participate in continuous improvement and cost-reduction projects using Lean and Six Sigma methodologies.
- Apply advanced technology to improve manufacturing controls and production/test information systems.
- Support process improvements and change-management initiatives within manufacturing operations.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an accredited institution.
- Minimum of 5 years of Controls and/or Test Engineering experience.
- Ability to design and build PLC controls from scratch.
- Strong hands-on PLC and HMI programming experience.
- Experience with Rockwell/Allen-Bradley software, including RSLogix 5, RSLogix 500, RSLogix 5000, Studio 5000, FactoryTalk View ME, and FactoryTalk View SE.
- Understanding of safety systems design.
- Experience with Visual Basic/Visual Studio, SQL, and Microsoft applications.
- Strong troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and problem-solving skills.
