Job Description: The Assistant Teacher works closely with the classroom teacher to plan, conduct and monitor all educational activities that go on in the classroom to which he/she is assigned. The educational activities relate to meeting the cognitive, emotional, social, and physical needs of children and families.
Responsibilities • Assist Teacher in preparing, implementing, and evaluating daily classroom activities
• Assist Teacher and Parent in providing for childcare needs and daily routines
• Assist the Teacher in maintaining all records including plan books, individual plans, developmental assessment skills checklists
• Assist with daily personal hygiene of the children such as diapering, feeding, tooth brushing, toileting, handwashing, and resting
• Share the responsibility of providing appropriate care for children with disabilities
• Take responsibility for the children when the Parent or Teacher is not present
• Provide input to Teacher for Parent/Staff Conferences, as well as for development and evaluation of individual goals of children and families
• Maintain daily childcare information
• Report suspected child abuse to DHS and to Director
immediately • Attends staff orientation
• Attend 18 hours professional development based on PDR
• Maintain current pediatric first aid certification
• Participate in professional growth and development activity
• Attend professional development annually on curriculum, program or child assessment, and/or age-appropriate Learning Standards.
Minimum Requirements: • Minimum of a CDA or an A.A. degree in Early Childhood Education and two years of classroom experience.
• Preschool/Child Development experience (preferred)
• Current First Aid/CPR card
