Position Summary

My Aire Heating & Cooling is seeking a knowledgeable and customer-focused Building Analysis Professional to evaluate residential homes and identify opportunities to improve comfort, energy efficiency, indoor air quality, and HVAC performance.

This position will perform detailed home assessments, diagnostic testing, HVAC load calculations, duct system evaluations, and building-envelope analysis. The Building Analysis Professional will work closely with homeowners, comfort advisors, installers, service technicians, and management to develop solutions based on actual building performancenot guesswork.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

Building & Home Performance Assessments

- Perform comprehensive residential building assessments.

- Evaluate insulation levels, air leakage, windows, doors, attics, crawlspaces, basements, and other components of the building envelope.

- Identify sources of excessive energy consumption, temperature differences, humidity problems, drafts, and comfort complaints.

- Evaluate how the HVAC system and building envelope interact.

- Document deficiencies and recommend practical improvements.

HVAC System Analysis

- Evaluate existing heating and cooling equipment for proper sizing and application.

- Perform or review Manual J load calculations.

- Assist with Manual S equipment selection when applicable.

- Evaluate duct systems using Manual D principles.

- Measure supply and return airflow.

- Check static pressure and identify airflow restrictions.

- Evaluate duct sizing, layout, leakage, insulation, and overall condition.

- Determine whether comfort problems are caused by equipment, ductwork, airflow, insulation, building leakage, or a combination of factors.

Diagnostic Testing

- Perform blower door testing when required.

- Conduct duct leakage testing.

- Measure total external static pressure.

- Perform airflow and temperature measurements.

- Use diagnostic tools to identify building-envelope and HVAC performance issues.

- Conduct combustion safety testing when required and properly trained/certified.

- Maintain accurate testing records and reports.

Energy Efficiency & Rebate Programs

- Identify improvements that may qualify for available utility, state, federal, or energy-efficiency programs.

- Assist customers in understanding recommended efficiency improvements.

- Provide required testing, documentation, photographs, measurements, and reports for qualifying projects.

- Work with office staff to ensure documentation is complete before projects are submitted for rebates or incentive programs.

Customer Consultation

- Clearly explain findings to homeowners in language they can understand.

- Provide customers with prioritized recommendations based on comfort, safety, efficiency, and budget.

- Help homeowners understand why a particular HVAC system size, duct modification, insulation improvement, or air-sealing measure is being recommended.

- Maintain a professional, educational approach without using high-pressure sales tactics.

Project & Installation Support

- Provide detailed scopes of work to the installation and sales teams.

- Verify measurements and specifications before major HVAC replacement or home-performance projects.

- Communicate special installation requirements to the Install Manager and field teams.

- Perform post-installation testing or verification when required.

- Help ensure completed projects achieve the intended airflow, comfort, and efficiency improvements.

Required Knowledge & Skills

The ideal candidate should have experience or strong working knowledge in:

- Residential HVAC systems

- Building science

- Home energy assessments

- Manual J load calculations

- Manual S equipment selection

- Manual D duct design

- Airflow measurement

- Static pressure testing

- Blower door testing

- Duct leakage testing

- Building-envelope evaluation

- Insulation and air sealing

- Indoor air quality

- Moisture and humidity control

- Reading floor plans and construction documents

- Customer communication and technical reporting

Preferred Certifications

Preference may be given to candidates with:

- BPI Building Analyst certification

- BPI Building Science Principles knowledge

- RESNET/HERS experience

- NATE certification

- HVAC technical certifications

- Blower door and duct-testing experience

- Manual J/S/D training or certification

- Home energy auditing experience

Qualifications

- 3+ years of HVAC, building science, energy auditing, weatherization, construction, or home-performance experience preferred.

- Strong understanding of residential HVAC and building-envelope interaction.

- Comfortable using diagnostic equipment and software.

- Strong computer and documentation skills.

- Ability to communicate technical findings to customers clearly.

- Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.

- Ability to work in attics, crawlspaces, mechanical rooms, and other residential environments.

- Ability to safely use ladders and diagnostic equipment.

- Must be dependable, organized, detail-oriented, and professional.
