About the Opportunity
Grade Potential is looking for experienced educators and subject-matter experts to provide one-on-one, in-person tutoring to local students in Washington, DC.
This is a flexible 1099 independent contractor opportunity designed for tutors who want to supplement their income, set their own availability, and choose the students and assignments that fit their schedule.
You control when you are available and the types of tutoring opportunities you want to accept. We handle the coordination and connect you with local students based on your subject expertise, availability, and preferred travel area.
What You'll Do
- Provide one-on-one, in-person tutoring to local students
- Support students from elementary school through high school, college, and adult learning
- Help students with current coursework, test preparation, and foundational academic skills
- Choose the students and sessions that fit your schedule
- Communicate with parents regarding student progress as needed
- Travel only within your preferred local radius, typically 5-10 miles
Qualifications
This opportunity is a strong fit for educators and subject-matter experts who enjoy working directly with students.
- Educators, recent college graduates, graduate students, and postgraduates are encouraged to apply
- Prior tutoring, teaching, mentoring, or coaching experience preferred
- Strong communication, organization, and time management skills
- Interested in flexible, part-time tutoring opportunities in the Washington, DC area
- Comfortable providing in-person tutoring and traveling locally
- Ability to work independently and manage your own availability
Subjects
Tutor in the subjects you know best. Most tutors specialize in one or two areas, but you can indicate all subjects you are qualified to support.
- Math: Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Calculus, Geometry, Statistics
- ELA: Phonemic Awareness, Reading, Vocabulary, Fluency, Literary Analysis
- Science: Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Earth & Space Science, Integrated Science
- Foreign Language: Spanish, French, German, Italian, Latin, Mandarin
- Social Studies: World History, U.S. History, Government & Civics, Economics
- Test Prep: SAT, ACT, PSAT, ISEE, SSAT, GRE, GMAT, AP Exams
Grade Level Experience
We support students at every stage, from foundational skills through college-level coursework.
- Elementary School (K-5): Reading, phonics, elementary math, spelling
- Middle School (6-8): Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1, life and earth science, world history
- High School (9-12): Algebra 2, geometry, pre-calculus, biology, physics
- College: Calculus, statistics, college algebra, chemistry, essay writing, GRE/GMAT
