Acorn Forestry is seeking a dependable, hardworking Heavy Equipment Mechanic Helper to join our team. This is a full-time position assisting with the maintenance and repair of heavy equipment, trucks, trailers, and other equipment used in our forestry operations.
This is a great opportunity for someone who is mechanically inclined and wants to gain additional hands-on experience working with heavy equipment. Previous mechanic experience is preferred, but we are willing to train the right individual who has a strong work ethic, basic mechanical knowledge, and a willingness to learn.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Assist mechanics with maintenance and repairs on heavy equipment, trucks, trailers, and other company equipment.
- Perform basic preventive maintenance, including oil and filter changes, greasing, fluid checks, and other routine services.
- Assist with removing, replacing, and repairing equipment components and parts.
- Help diagnose mechanical problems under the direction of an experienced mechanic.
- Assist with repairs in the shop and occasionally in the field.
- Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in a clean and organized condition.
- Retrieve and organize parts, tools, and supplies needed for repairs.
- Perform basic inspections and report equipment problems or concerns.
- Assist with welding and fabrication projects as experience allows.
- Follow all company safety procedures and supervisor instructions.
- Perform other shop, maintenance, and equipment-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Mechanically inclined with an interest in heavy equipment repair and maintenance.
- Basic knowledge of hand tools, power tools, and mechanical equipment.
- Previous automotive, diesel, heavy equipment, agricultural, or mechanical experience is preferred but not required.
- Welding experience is a plus but not required.
- Ability and willingness to learn from experienced mechanics.
- Ability to follow instructions and work as part of a team.
- Dependable, self-motivated, and able to work with a sense of urgency.
- Ability to safely perform physically demanding work, including lifting, bending, climbing, and working around heavy equipment.
- Willingness to work outdoors and in varying weather conditions when field repairs are required.
- Willingness to travel to job sites when needed.
- Valid driver's license required.
