Lead Farm Insurance Customer Service Representative
Position Summary:
We are seeking a Lead Farm Insurance Customer Service Representative to serve as a trusted advisor and primary service contact for our farm clients. In this role, you will leverage your insurance expertise to support farm and agricultural accounts, deliver exceptional customer service, and manage renewals and new business opportunities within the team. The ideal candidate is a licensed Property & Casualty professional with a strong understanding of farm operations, underwriting practices, and insurance coverage solutions. This position offers the opportunity to play a key role in client retention, account growth, team development, and agency success.
Key Responsibilities:
Client Service & Account Management
- Serve as the primary point of contact for assigned farm accounts.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, carriers, and agency partners.
- Manage policy renewals, endorsements, certificates, and related service requests.
- Identify opportunities to round accounts and recommend additional coverage solutions.
- Assist clients with premium financing, billing questions, and collection processes.
- Meet with clients in the office or onsite when necessary to support their insurance needs.
- Ensure timely, professional responses to client inquiries and carrier communications.
Underwriting & Marketing
- Review applications and perform preliminary underwriting evaluations.
- Assess risks and determine eligibility based on carrier guidelines and underwriting standards.
- Market new and renewal business to carriers to secure competitive coverage and pricing.
- Collaborate with Producers and the Farm Team to address underwriting concerns and find solutions for clients.
- Maintain current knowledge of agricultural operations, industry trends, carrier appetites, and regulatory changes.
Administrative Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate client records within the agency management system.
- Process certificates, endorsements, policy changes, and miscellaneous documents.
- Manage expiration reports and renewal workflows.
- Complete data entry, file maintenance, and reporting activities in a timely manner.
Claims Support
- Assist clients with reporting claims and navigating the claims process.
- Review policies to verify applicable coverage and explain claim procedures.
- Prepare and submit loss reports to carriers accurately and promptly.
- Follow up on claim status and serve as a liaison between clients, carriers, employers, and employees as needed.
- Coordinate claim documentation and ensure claims are closed appropriately.
Leadership & Team Support
- Serve as a subject matter expert within the Farm department.
- Lead two Farm Underwriters.
- Support training and mentoring of team members across departments.
- Promote best practices in customer service, underwriting, and agency procedures.
- Assist with special projects and process improvement initiatives.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent required; college degree preferred
- Active Illinois Property & Casualty license required
- Minimum of 3 years of farm insurance, or related insurance customer service experience
- Working knowledge of farm insurance policies, coverages, underwriting principles, rating, claims handling, and billing procedures
- Proven success identifying coverage gaps and cross-selling insurance solutions
- Working knowledge of Applied Epic desired; will consider experience with related agency management systems
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Exceptional customer service and relationship-building abilities
- Proven organizational skills with strong attention to detail
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Demonstrated mentoring, training, or leadership experience preferred
- Ability to pass a criminal background check, as permitted by law
