Established industrial contracting company and robotics integrator seeks a highly motivated, organized, and technically capable Project Engineer to join our team. The position will be based in the California Central Valley and will require travel primarily throughout the West Coast, with occasional travel throughout the U.S.

Brief Job Description

The Project Engineer will work closely with Project Managers, Construction Managers, Foremen, Estimators, Engineers, customers, vendors, and subcontractors to support the successful execution of industrial construction and automation projects.

This position will be responsible for assisting with project planning, estimating, engineering coordination, procurement, scheduling, documentation, cost tracking, and field support. The Project Engineer will help ensure projects are properly planned and executed safely, efficiently, on schedule, and within budget.

The ideal candidate is highly organized, technically minded, proactive, and capable of managing multiple priorities. This person should have a strong sense of urgency, attention to detail, and the ability to identify issues before they become problems.

The Project Engineer role is intended to provide an opportunity for continued professional development and advancement within RAM. Successful Project Engineers may progress into roles such as Project Manager, Construction Manager, Estimator, or Engineer, depending on their strengths and interests.

Responsibilities

Project Planning & Coordination

  • Assist Project Managers and Construction Managers with planning and execution of industrial construction projects.
  • Participate in project kickoff meetings and assist with establishing project requirements, schedules, and deliverables.
  • Review project scope, drawings, specifications, and contract documents.
  • Assist in identifying project requirements, risks, material needs, manpower requirements, and potential issues.
  • Help develop and maintain project schedules.
  • Coordinate activities between engineering, estimating, purchasing, shop fabrication, field personnel, and subcontractors.
  • Track project progress and communicate issues that could affect schedule, cost, or quality.
  • Assist with project closeout and completion documentation.

Estimating & Preconstruction

  • Participate in bid walks and site visits.
  • Assist with defining project scope and developing estimates.
  • Review drawings, specifications, and customer requirements.
  • Obtain and review subcontractor and vendor quotations.
  • Assist with quantity takeoffs and material pricing.
  • Participate in bid reviews and proposal preparation.
  • Develop an understanding of project history, costs, and production requirements to improve future estimating accuracy.

Engineering & Technical Support

  • Coordinate with RAM's engineering team on project design and technical requirements.
  • Review drawings and identify potential constructability issues.
  • Assist with 3D modeling, layouts, fabrication drawings, and field documentation as required.
  • Support the development of piping, equipment, structural, and automation solutions.
  • Assist with field measurements, 3D scanning, and verification of existing conditions.
  • Work with engineering and field personnel to develop practical construction solutions.

Procurement & Logistics

  • Assist with determining required materials, equipment, and tools.
  • Prepare purchase requests and coordinate with purchasing and shop support.
  • Track material and equipment orders to ensure they arrive when needed.
  • Coordinate deliveries and logistics with the shop and field teams.
  • Help maintain accurate project documentation related to purchasing and materials.

Project Financial & Administrative Support

  • Assist with project cost tracking and budget management.
  • Monitor committed and actual costs and communicate potential budget issues.
  • Assist with change order documentation and pricing.
  • Support project billing and schedule-of-values requirements.
  • Maintain accurate project records and documentation.
  • Prepare project status reports and other required documentation.
  • Utilize project management and construction software to maintain accurate information.

Field & Construction Support

  • Conduct jobsite visits to monitor progress, quality, and project requirements.
  • Work directly with Foremen and Construction Managers to help resolve field issues.
  • Assist with coordinating manpower, materials, equipment, and subcontractors.
  • Help ensure work is being performed according to plans, specifications, safety requirements, and applicable codes.
  • Document field conditions and communicate changes or issues to the project team.
  • Assist in resolving construction and technical issues as they arise.

Communication & Customer Service

  • Communicate professionally with customers, vendors, subcontractors, and RAM team members.
  • Participate in customer meetings and project discussions.
  • Provide timely updates regarding project status, issues, and requirements.
  • Develop strong working relationships with customers and project team members.
  • Anticipate project needs and proactively communicate potential problems.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture, Building Science, or a related field preferred.
  • 2–4 years of experience in construction, engineering, estimating, project coordination, or a related field preferred.
  • Strong candidates with less experience may be considered based on education, technical ability, and demonstrated initiative.
  • Understanding of industrial construction processes and project management principles.
  • Ability to read and understand construction drawings, specifications, and technical documents.
  • Familiarity with construction materials, equipment, and field installation practices.
  • Experience with estimating, scheduling, project management, CAD, BIM, or 3D modeling software is a plus.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Outlook.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently while also contributing effectively to a team.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Willingness to learn and take on increasing levels of responsibility.

Compensation & Benefits

Salary Range: $70,000–$90,000, depending on experience and qualifications.
