Barkfield Animal Hospital
is seeking a Part-Time Kennel Assistant to join our compassionate, team-oriented hospital. As one of the first people responsible for caring for our boarding and daycare guests, you'll play an important role in ensuring every pet feels safe, comfortable, and well cared for during their stay.

What You'll Do
We're more than a boarding and daycare facility. We're a full-service veterinary hospital dedicated to providing exceptional care for pets and outstanding service for the families who love them.

Animal Care & Patient Comfort
  • Provide compassionate daily care for boarding and daycare pets
  • Feed, water, exercise, and monitor dogs throughout the day
  • Safely supervise group play and individual activities
  • Ensure every pet remains comfortable, safe, and stress-free during their stay
  • Develop familiarity with individual pets, their routines, and their needs
Kennel & Facility Care
  • Maintain clean, sanitized kennels, play areas, and hospital spaces
  • Wash bedding, laundry, dishes, and pet care equipment
  • Restock supplies and assist with general hospital organization
  • Help maintain a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for pets, clients, and team members
  • Follow established cleaning, sanitation, and safety protocols
Health Monitoring
  • Observe pets for changes in appetite, behavior, activity level, or overall condition
  • Report abnormalities or concerns promptly to the veterinary team
  • Maintain accurate boarding and daycare records
  • Follow feeding, medication, and care instructions as directed
Client Service Support
  • Assist pet owners during check-in and check-out
  • Provide updates regarding pets' stays when appropriate
  • Help create a positive and welcoming experience for clients and their pets

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience safely handling dogs of various breeds, sizes, and temperaments
  • Previous experience providing animal care, cleaning, feeding, or enrichment
  • Interest in developing additional skills within a veterinary hospital
  • Students or individuals pursuing a career in veterinary medicine are encouraged to apply
Physical Requirements

This position is active and hands-on. Team members should be able to:
  • Stand and walk for extended periods
  • Bend, kneel, squat, and lift up to 50 pounds with assistance when appropriate
  • Work safely around dogs and cats of varying sizes and temperaments
  • Perform repetitive cleaning and sanitation tasks
  • Work in environments with animal dander, fur, cleaning products, and disinfectants

What We Offer
Schedule & Compensation

This is a part-time position with shifts scheduled between 7:00 AM and 6:00 PM, including rotating weekends and holidays to support our boarding and daycare services.

Starting pay begins at $14.00/hour, with compensation based on experience and opportunities for performance-based growth.
