IS4S is seeking qualified candidates to support navigation systems simulation and testing activities at our Auburn, AL location. The person or persons filling this role will work with others in a cross-functional teams to development customized simulation and test equipment to perform laboratory and field testing of navigation systems.

Typical activities and responsibilities would include:

Developing and maintain interfaces (software and hardware) between laboratory test equipment and platform systems (avionics and vetronics).

Develop and maintain hardware-in-the-loop (HWIL) and software-in-the-loop (SWIL) test beds for military platforms with advanced navigation systems.

Assessing performance of navigation technologies using laboratory and simulation equipment including acceptance, functional, and qualification testing.

Support test equipment installation and operation at government and sub-contractor laboratory facilities

Support field testing of advanced prototypes

Candidates should enjoy working a variety of interrelated tasks that may be different in nature. Though the position will be an addition to an existing team, candidates are expected to be self-driven problem solvers capable of operating independently on some tasks. Candidates must have strong analytical and communication skills. The position requires knowledge in multiple areas across signal processing, Unix systems, networking, development, as well as regular customer interaction through meetings, briefings, and reporting. Some responsibilities necessary for execution may be physical in nature (e.g., packing and moving test equipment, installing sensors in vehicles, setting up communication network using masts, working in anechoic chambers, etc.). Both full and part-time applicants will be considered, subject to the requirements listed below. Candidate must be a US citizen and eligible for a DoD clearance.

Required Experience and Skills:

Bachelor’s degree or higher in engineering, computer science, or related technical field (for full-time applicants)

Proficiency with one or all the following programming languages: C/C++, Matlab, Python

  • Hardware Skills:
    • Basic laboratory wiring (soldering, simple crimp connectors)
    • General use of oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, signal generators, power supplies
    • Custom computer assembly (PCI / PCIe card integration)

Knowledge of Unix systems, particularly at the command line.

High MS Excel and Word proficiency

Strong written and oral communication skills

Ability and motivation to work with minimal direction

Additional Experience / Qualifications of Interest:

  • Build Systems / Tools: gcc, cmake, colcon, ninja, VSCode, Docker, git
  • DDS (RTI, eProsima FastRTPS/DDS, OpenDDS)
  • General HWIL test systems
  • GPS / Inertial Simulator use experience (Spirent preferred)
  • Experience with MIL-STD-1553, MIL-STD-704
  • Analog synchro/resolver equipment
  • Military grade GPS user equipment
  • Military grade avionics
  • National Instruments DAQ (C / DAQmx)
  • SCPI instrumentation protocol / programming
  • FPGA Development
  • RS-422, RS-232, custom discrete / digital I/O programming
  • Experience in developing:
    • Hardware control interfaces and applications
    • Automation tools / scripts
    • User interfaces
    • Data recording and processing tools
  • Navigation theory (Inertial, GPS, other)
