Job Summary:

Pirc-Tobin Construction is seeking an experienced individual to join our project crews in the Des Moines, IA area as a Backfill Operator. The ideal candidate is self-motivated, positive, team-oriented, and safety-conscious, with the skills and experience necessary to operate heavy equipment for projects including, but not limited to, underground pipe installation, grading, and street reconstruction.

Candidates must be proficient in safely maneuvering equipment around obstacles and buried utilities and be capable of working independently without direct supervision from management.

When not operating equipment, individuals must be willing to perform physical labor whenever needed.

Applicant must pass a drug test prior to working.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

• • Demonstrates safe and proficient operation of heavy equipment associated with duties related, but not limited to, underground pipe installation, grading, and street reconstruction.
  • Have the appropriate required training to perform jobs such as main line pipe installs, removals, fine grading, truck loading, and other associated tasks.
  • Must be proficient in safely maneuvering equipment around obstacles and buried utilities without direct supervision from management.
  • Read blueprints, grade stakes, and utility locates.
  • Perform daily equipment inspections and preventative maintenance.
  • Maintain the cleanliness of the equipment.
  • Work safely around other equipment, crews, and live traffic.
  • Work a full-time schedule with overtime during construction season as follows:

-- Seasonal work, March - December -- Monday - Friday, 7:00-5:30 with possible weekend work -- 40-55 hours/week, depending on weather--

Education, Experience & Training Requirements:

• • 1000 hours minimum of safe and proficient operation of various heavy equipment
  • Must be proficient in safely maneuvering equipment around obstacles and buried utilities without direct supervision from management.
  • Must hold a valid insurable driver's license - Class C minimum
