Tax Supervisor

We are looking for a Tax Supervisor to join a public accounting firm in Madison, Wisconsin. This role oversees a broad range of tax engagements for businesses and individuals, ensuring work is completed accurately, on schedule, and in line with high-quality standards. The position also plays an important part in guiding team members, supporting client relationships, and helping deliver responsive, high-quality tax services.

Responsibilities:

• Lead assigned tax engagements from initial planning through final delivery for both business and individual clients.

• Organize project schedules, team assignments, budgets, billing activities, and due dates to keep engagements moving efficiently.

• Examine tax returns, financial statements, workpapers, and related files to confirm completeness, accuracy, and overall quality.

• Perform tax research, evaluate technical issues, and present practical recommendations to clients and internal leadership.

• Mentor and support staff and senior team members by providing training, direction, and constructive performance feedback.

• Maintain clear communication with clients and colleagues regarding project status, outstanding information requests, and upcoming deadlines.

• Resolve standard tax matters independently and bring more complex issues to managers or partners when needed.

• Strengthen client partnerships by delivering reliable service and recognizing opportunities for additional advisory or tax-related support.

• Meet utilization expectations while upholding confidentiality, integrity, and strong quality standards.

• Collaborate across teams to contribute to a cooperative, respectful, and service-focused work environment.

• Experience supervising tax engagements within a public accounting or CPA firm environment.
• Strong knowledge of corporate and individual tax return preparation and review.
• Familiarity with annual income tax provision processes and related reporting requirements.
• Proficiency with CCH ProSystem fx and CCH Sales Tax software.
• Ability to conduct tax research and communicate technical conclusions clearly to clients and internal stakeholders.
• Demonstrated skill in managing multiple deadlines, budgets, and client priorities simultaneously.
• Experience coaching entry-level accounting staff and supporting their career development.
• Understanding of entity formation considerations and related tax implications.
